Thanks for the memories, Gareth, I hope you succeed.

Yep, so Real know that we are the place to go in future for anyone needing to improve them.
Modric MOM today and has really turned the fans around, now Bale lighting the place up would truly show them we are the place to go to pick up talent.

Obviously that agreement was just about us being a feeder club.
Lloris or Vertonghen next up and god forbid Sandro has a good year.

That buck-toothed ugly bastard, Cotterill, who's been parked outside the Bernebeau Stadium all day & has been fed info by Real Madrid's people. He stood there & read out the statement & then said the fee. One must conclude that the fee was in that statement.

BBC just updated their breaking news story:

The transfer fee of £85.3m (100m euros) breaks the world record of £80m set in 2009 when Cristiano Ronaldo moved from Manchester United to Real Madrid.

Generally reliable... we shall see.

From facebook (and now the OS: http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/club-announcement-010913/)

The Club can announce that it has reached agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of Gareth Bale.

Gareth joined from Southampton in May 2007 and during his six years with the Club made 203 appearances, scoring 55 goals.

Chairman, Daniel Levy commented, "Gareth was a player we had absolutely no intention of selling as we look to build for the future. He is a player whose career we have fostered and developed and he was only a year into his new four year contract.

"Such has been the attention from Real Madrid and so great is Gareth's desire to join them, that we have taken the view that the player will not be sufficiently committed to our campaign in the current season.

"We have, therefore, with great reluctance, agreed to this sale and do so in the knowledge that we have an exceptionally strong squad to which we have added no fewer than seven top internationals. More importantly, we have an immense team spirit and a dressing room that is hungry for success.

"We wish Gareth all the best in the future and he shall always be welcome at the Lane."

GARETH BALE STATEMENT:

“I have had six very happy years at Tottenham but it’s the right time to say goodbye. We’ve had some special times together over the years and I’ve loved every minute of it.

“I would like to thank everyone at the Club, the Chairman, Board, staff, coaches and players – and most of all the fantastic fans who I hope will understand this amazing career opportunity.

“I am not sure there is ever a good time to leave a club where I felt settled and was playing the best football of my career to date. I know many players talk of their desire to join the club of their boyhood dreams, but I can honestly say, this is my dream come true.

“I am well aware that I would not be at the level I am today were it not for firstly Southampton and then Spurs standing by me during some of the tougher times and affording me the environment and support they have.

“Tottenham will always be in my heart and I’m sure that this season will be a successful one for them. I am now looking forward to the next exciting chapter in my life, playing football for Real Madrid."

Realmadridnews.com is saying €91m (71m UK [no pound key on keyboard])

Not sure where you buy you currency but if was converting 91m euro's into pounds I'd be mighty pissed off if the foreign exchange guys took an £8m commision :)

We all knew this was coming, still can't help feeling a bit sad about it but with the fees quoted for him we would have been fools not to sell. Thank you Gareth Bale for everything, wish you the best of luck in the plastic team of Madrid.

Seems like a good day to bury bad news. If we are to sign anyone tomorrow it will be ask the ITK sources have said, release fee's only because we will be seen as even more of big piggy bank by selling clubs now

I actually think this is a genius move by the club

By announcing immediately after the arsenal game all focus has been taken off of our defeat and any media spotlight that our new players may have been subjected to.

Nobody is really talking about our defeat now and ssn are absolutely delighted that they're move has happened there gona run with for an hour every hour

In all seriousness, surely it's going to be at least a month til he's match fit if he doesn't want to let the world know he was indeed faking his injury

Indeed - typo on my part - argh :)

91,000,000 Euro equals 77,584,245.06 UK pounds.

(now what can Levy do with 6p?)
