Shaw over Bale. OK.

I'm not saying I know Bale will return. One would have to be Bale, Levy or Pochettino to know that, which I'm not. However, all the people categorically ruling it out are too narrow minded, IMO.
I can see a deal being done for Bale - not at 90m, mind. Levy needs to make a statement signing for the new stadium and get bums on seats for the season. Which other marquee signing would come to us?? Who better than a player who loves the club?

Kane isn't going anywhere, whatever 'Don Balon,' say.

That's it. If he, Bale that is, doesn't return to Spurs, I think it will be for reasons from the sports department, not the financial department.

I agree Levy will be investigating the possibility.

With regards to Stadium selling out, first season etc - that’s a guaranteed regardless of who we sign.

Bale's still very marketable. There's rumours that he's got a few new deals coming up....Bupa, Stannah stairlifts, Sanatogen.

Indeed mate. Beckham is still very marketable but you wouldn't want to spend a huge chunk of your transfer and wage budget on him. If we had almost unlimited funds like Yanited or City it would be a risk well worth taking. As it is the money should 100% invested with the next 5 years firmly in mind. What people have to understand is that us signing Bale would certainly mean us not signing anyone else of any significance, and should his injuries keep coming(and the evidence suggests they will) it will still leave us short for large chunks of the season.

I love Bale as much as the next Spurs fan, but he's now a gamble that is not worth taking. Even if he was to come back from now until the end of the season prove himself as reliable and able again(making him worth the risk), why would Madrid then be interested in letting him go?

I sort of meant in the broader sense... marketing... tv appeal for the broadcasters...

However, if we end up in Europa this year, wouldn't hurt to have Bale kicking about to ensure there are no empty seats when we play some pub team from the back of beyond...

Too much sense :)

There are some really exciting players we can sign - Kleivert, Sess etc etc

I guess there's always the Wales angle, I'm sure he wants to play in a world cup so if he felt the injuries would ease up with a different training regime he might go for that.
Just looking for reasons to be cheerful really, you never know.

We struggle to pay our current best players even half the wages they can command elsewhere. How the fuck are we going to afford to pay Bales?

big pinch of salt required i think
ebspurs on coys: Welcome to take with a pinch of salt but only passing on in good faith. A friend of a friend spent time with Bale recently. It seems he is very unhappy in Madrid and with all the politics including those surrounding Ronaldo has fallen out of love with football. He wants to come home and only wants to come back to Spurs. Knows he will have to take a massive pay cut and is prepared to do so to start enjoying life again. Sounded like it would be more likely in the Summer than January. As said passed on in good faith.

I’ve liked this because I’m choosing to believe it for the next 5 minutes as I’ve had a shit day.

I’ll get back to reality later.

Im the biggest cynic when it comes to rumours but i feel something in me water that thinks this might actually happen, probably because i think it would be a bad idea.

I like the idea of it, but cant help feeling he'll end up taking a smaller pay cut and ending up at the Chavs or Utd.

On the pitch wise it's a gamble, but we're trying to the win the league with a huge gulf in resources compared to the other teams so everything we do will have to be a gamble. It'd also be such a huge statement of intent, it might/should help us keep people...

We can dream.

Sounds like he’s depressed if this is true

There are more sensible gambles than a crock who'll be 29 next season, as wonderful as he was and it would still excite me if he arrived but there are better ways to piss away £60-80m.

It almost sounds believable. Even if that is his current state of mind though I can still see him closer to the time thinking fck it I'll go to Man U and earn twice as much with the possibility of partially emulating Giggs.

Then again.... Mourinho! If this is really how he feels about the game would he really want to work under that ****?
