For the Beeb to run that headline without any quotes suggests to me they've had a steer either from Spurs or Bale's agent. They don't tend to run with bullshit tittle tattle stated as fact so from my experience as a journo that sounds a lot to me as if they've been briefed off the record that Gareth is going elsewhere or we're not interested

It's an opinion piece.

However, the forward has a contract with the Spanish giants until 2022 and is thought to earn £350,000 a week. It means his likely transfer fee and wages would make a Tottenham bid unrealistic

So on the one hand the headline says he's definitely not coming but later on it's "unrealistic" and that's based on what? A guess that he's going to demand the same money as he's currently on. They might end up being correct but it's got absolutely nothing to do with an insider info it's exactly what you say you've never seen from the BBC.

Not necessarily. As I say they may have been briefed off the record so can't quote or implicate their source and are using the rest of the background info and supposition to build the piece. Ive certainly known exactly this set of circumstances to happen with agents and sources at clubs on papers I've worked on. Anyway, it's largely irrelevant, I think we all know with relative certainty that he's not coming home

BBC always attribute rumours to their source and point out they are rumours. They also make clear when something is an opinion piece i.e. editorial (when they have the author's title and picture). In my reckoning this is presented as if fact which must mean it is based on some high-level info. As we know, historically BBC may sometimes be slow with football news but are much more often right than other media.

Do explain?

We’ve had contradictory bits of itk on Bale for months now, which is fine as people get their information from different places and we all appreciate all info we get, but now two different media sources who you’d assume are quite well connected say basically the same thing within an hour of each other. BBC don’t usually post quotes and are unlikely to chat shit as the gain to loss of reputation is so low for them.

I’d say that’s put the nail in coffin for me more then the “it could happen it could not but probably not” we’ve had recently, this is pretty clear. But each to their own, it all creates an interesting picture as long as you take nothing except OS as gospel.

Who's talking about the reliability of the info? An hour apart is a very long time on the internet, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that one has the other as a source and indeed, I'd say it's actually likely. If you want to assume someone is the "mouthpiece if the club" based on literally fuck all, I'll feel free to laugh at that.

Nothing the BBC does now is credible as far as news and presentation goes. It is time to give us our licence fee back. Lets see how the pompous holier than thou arses survive then.

They've changed it to 400,000 a week now. The scouse journalists are still sobbing in their pints and wanted to write a story to make them feel better! :ROFLMAO:
