You are right that reo-coker is doing more of the devensive duties this season, but before that barry was the DM in the villa team... he also has been doing a pretty good job of it for England this season as well... he is definately i the carrick mold in terms of passing and tackling, he just seems to have a bit more energy and a better running game than carrick

I have this idea of what a defensive midfielder is, and Barry just isn't it. There's a hard as nails types like Poulsen. The solid as a rock types like Makalele. The tidy, deep laying passers like Carrick... Barry is none of them. I think the fact that he does his defensive duties, along with the fact he started out as a defender cause people to think of his as a prodominatly defensive player. I see calling Barry a defensive midfielder no different to calling Jenas one. Or Lucho for that matter.
All of the above said, I could well be talking out of my arse. Still, it's livening up a slow evening
