..........and still are....

No, we were skint. Scholar almost took us to the wall. Gazza's sale probably saved us from liquidation. He was sold or we agreed to the sale I understand before the FA Cup and that horrific injury. Lazio kept their end of the deal and waited for him to recover to see the contract through.

I dont think the progress of any knee from injury has ever been monitored so cosely by so many concerned people.

The 5m quid was THFC's get out of jail card! He would never have been sold otherwise!

Just imagine he could have been even better if he hadn't of had is problems. Very like George Best, they were both truely gifted players, capible of anything and probably still half pissed when they were playing.

Love Gazza and think he will go down as one of the best players this country have produced but I don't understand the thinking behind this as a cinema release?

A tv documentary maybe or straight to DVD at best but I can't see who would go to the cinema and spend £10 to see this (might be because I've got about 5 DVD's with all of this stuff already).

Is it becase it's 25 years since Italia 90? o_O

It's a testament to how special a player Gazza was, that supporters (who are old enough) of any other English team will still remember where they were when he got that yellow in the World Cup semi.

I'm old enough but I can't remember yesterday let alone the 'have a word with him' incident!

Not saying you're wrong, but I've always wondered if booze contributed to his talent.

Alcohol can give people extra confidence, and steady the nerves. It can lead to spontaneous and creative decisions that they might otherwise hesitate over. I used to play a lot of pool tournaments, and personally found that between being completely sober and too drunk there was a level where I was at my very best - playing shots quickly and accurately, and knowing I was going to clear the table rather than hoping I would.

The same could potentially apply to Best (although I have no idea how long he was a heavy drinker), or a coked up Maradona at Napoli. All three obviously had huge natural talent, but I do wonder if booze (or in Maradona's case, illegal drugs) helped in some way.

Good point actually. Greaves was another who liked the sauce. My old man told me a story about how Greaves got smashed one Friday night. Worried he might miss kick off, he drove his car to WHL and slept in it.

He then scored a hat trick.

You might be on to something here...

Gazzamania never really went away, he was in the papers everyday all throughout his career and even to this day he's in there once a week. Even away fans coming to the lane sometimes would sing his name or clap him off at their ground. I think every kid wanted to be him or emulate him on the playground.

The closest excitement we've got to an English player since then has been Rooney but that was only a fraction of what Gazza got and only lasted a small amount of time

I was as at the Man City game (won 3-1) with Gazza and Lineker - the first game after the World Cup in which both were England's star players.

The atmosphere before, during and after was ELECTRIC - unbelievable.

Loved him but obviously he wasn't the same player after his knee injury.

You're kidding aren't you? He was pulling Serie A inside out once he'd found his fitness and admittedly, at a lower level; his time at Rangers was amazing.

Will always look at Gazza as the most exciting and entertaining player from England. Others have had better careers and more longevity but Gazza's enthusiasm and natural ability were astounding. Hoddle was a great player well before his time but Gazza had something else about him. Always remember watching Italia 90 and the Gazza video's and recaps on VHS after it and seeing the stuff he got up to round the pool.

Hope he can keep it together this time and regain some standing in the media/game in some capacity.

Watching the film tonight online will bring back a lot of memories. Gazza is the main reason I started supporting spurs. Loved gazza as a player and as a kid his silly antics really appealed to me

Just watched the film. Couldn't watch the tackle on Gary Charles - a truly disastrous moment.
