That Danilo to Man City is almost unbelievable. £80m+ on two RBs.

It's nuts.
Further enhances my opinion that Pep is a Bang average manager who's won Trophies because he's been at clubs that aren't in competitive leagues and inherited the best players in the world. He comes to the PL and struggles. Fraud of a manager if you ask me.

If Man City win the league this year, it will be very little to do with Pep.

50 million on a substitute - that's what Kyle Walker is now.

Hadn't really considered that notion - it's a theory of mine that that scenario is Koeman's gig... But Pep?

I like it (y)

This graph/article from 2014 hypothesised that 2017 would be the year that the £100m barrier would be broken, which may have already happened depending on who you listen to. According to the graph, the transfer record is being broken at an increasingly quick rate so you could well see £200m being broken within the next couple of years, if not on Neymar then perhaps Dembele, Mbappe or - dare I say it? - Alli. Obviously as well as talent one thing the players that get sold for huge money nowadays have is age on their side, so they retain some sort of resale value after they've played at the club for five years or so, so it's unlikely to be any firmly established player...but barring the bottom falling out of the market (which isn't particularly unlikely, with people gradually turning their back on the crazy prices demanded for live TV access) it seems very likely that the first £200m player is already playing professionally. Personally I reckon it's going to be Phoenix Patterson.

EDIT: Base an entire post around a graph, but don't post the graph. Fuck off mate.

Morata confirms he spoke with Poch last summer:

“Various Premier League coaches called to tell me to play for them,” the Spaniard told the Guardian in April . “I said yeah, I’d like to, that if I had to leave I would almost certainly go to London, but that I didn’t know what Madrid would do. I knew they’d bring me back but I didn’t know if it was to keep me or sell me. I spoke directly to Mauricio Pochettino and Antonio Conte."

Do you think that was before or after Levy spat his tea in Poch's face when he heard the fee?

Would Morata actually strengthen them? I'm not so sure. He's certainly a notch down on the top level forwards.

It's a good signing, but no means a certainty that he'll be a success. He's not as robust physically as Kane, Costa, Aguero etc.

He was averaging a goal every 85 minutes last season - better than Ronaldo.

They will miss Costa's brutality, but Morata is a very good player. Prefer him to Lukaku in a lot of ways.

To be fair how he started out was very different. He had the B team job at Barca when it was a shambles. He put better structures for progression and development in place and got his team of kids promoted winning the league, and apparently playing better football than the then first team - which helped him get the job.

Then with the first team, he bombed out some big established names who didn't fit with his vision. Now it's true he had three unbelievable footballers in Messi, Xavi, and Iniesta which helped massively, but he still basically made Pedro and Busquets, as well as Pique who was a Man Utd reserve before he went back. Then you look at the number of players who debuted, and games that development minutes went to - El Classicos, Big CL games etc.

At City it's totally different and almost like they are playing fantasy football buying who they want, and I agree it cheapens any win. But he's shown evidence that he is a capable coach. I think a lot of the time managers come in and don't trust what they inherit... At Barca his ideas on football were formed there, and he knew the club and it's systems and development of players inside out, and so trusted what was in the youth teams and would use them - at City though he doesn't have that belief and trust.

Agree with all that. It's almost as if that footballing perfection he achieved at Barca is now an unattainable target he's chasing. That football he played with those players - he's so desperate to recreate it, but he'll never have another Messi, Xavi and Iniesta, but he's not prepared to cut his cloth accordingly.

£60m for Morata makes Lukaku's price seem cheap

Morata scored 20 goals last season, and he's not even the first choice striker. I know he gets awesome service with the likes of Modric and bale, but if I was a united fan, I know who id prefer for the money.

At least Morata likes to create his own chances. Having said that, I think out all the strikers gained by prem teams this season, Arsenal have got the best deal with Lacazette for 50m.
