Ginola v Waddle - who was better?

Geared at the over 30s mostly: who was better for us? and who was better in general?

Waddle was my first Spurs hero (86-87 season). He had great skill, could cross or shoot with either foot. He was just as good against big opposition (West Germany 1990, Liverpool when they were good, he ripped through the Milan defence when he played for Marseille).

He didn´t get the recognition he deserved away from Spurs (in England - in France he was revered) but I loved him to bits. Was gutted when we didn´t re-sign him as well (wasn´t he footballer of the year when he returned from France?)

Ginola was clearly very good but I actually thought his best days were with Newcastle. He scored some great goals (v Barnsley and Leeds) but whenever I saw him play live at the ground he was absolute guff e.g. when we lost 3-0 at home to Middlesbrough (Nicola Berti and Gazza played in the same match). My QPR supporting mate reckoned Ginola was waiting for a bus.

I´d kill for a Waddle now.

Very different types those two. I don't think anyone would have used Waddle to front an advertising campaign for hair products.

Waddle was probably a better all round player, though Ginola was a showman with a much better haircut. We were probably a worse team in Ginola's day, so he shone brighter, but they were both Spurs diamonds.

Waddle was the biz - shone like a diamond light in an adventurous team

Ginola was revered cos he won games for us on his own in a team that was poor

So Ginola probably stood out more BUT Chrissy was the class act.

As suggested above we received these players at different times in their careers. By the time Ginola came to us he had already been unfortunate enough to have been blamed for France not qualifying for the World Cup (or was it the European Nations). Waddle actually learned and improved as a player while at Tottenham.
I always found Ginola to be a much more individual player than Waddle, focussed more on what he could individually do....he would expect to be left to do his thing by the rest of the side and oh what a thing that could be! I believe that Waddle learned and benefitted by his assocaition with Hoddle especially in the area of passing / delivery (but not singing). He became an accomplished passer while being more known as someone who was known as a dribbler. Both were very special players that you would pay the admission fee for them alone to watch. Both had their own version of guile and trickery that when seen today in a Ronaldo we go ape at. I always hoped that Anderton would emerge as another Chris Waddle but it did'nt quite go that way. I would answer this question with a question. Do you prefer your stuff as fantastic moments spread through a match(with the possibility that they don't occur at all) or persistant high quality play that delivers for the team on a more regular basis. Preferring the former would mean Ginola was best, the latter Waddle.

Wow, after much deliberation I´d say that as a Spurs fan wanting the best for my side, I´d rather have the latter - but as a bloke in the pub discussing something amazing the former.

So the latter

Waddle was the better player but T Galvin was better than both of them!

I can't even understand how people can rate Waddle over Ginola. Waddler was fucking class but Le Gin was just really bloody magic. Was it cos he played for poor team or what but Ginola was better in Spurs shirt.

Ginola was a better winger

Waddle was able to run a game from midfield

I'd take both of them!
