he probably will have a role to play just like some other squad members like ohara & hudd simply because of the fact harry isnt bothered about the uefa cup this year and its a perfect chance to give squad players a run out and make them play for their futures at the club.

That's a very big assumption, not a fact. Just because it is third priority behind the league and CC final doesn't mean we'll run up a white flag and send a second-string team to the Ukraine (and if I were one of the intrepid faithful spending a sizeable chunk of my hard-earned on the trip, I'd be hugely pissed off if we effectively emailed in the result).

If we get a result (and especially an away goal or two) there's every chance we can see them off at the Lane. They're good, but not that good, and the same goes for CSKA or Villa if we get through. Boro reached the final three years ago, albeit in a weaker competition, and no-one believed they'd do so.

I wouldn't worry too much tbh. He's still very young and still building up strength in his legs. Injuries tend to happen quiete a lot to players the size and frame of Giovani. We had similar concerns with Lennon at one point too. And Barca had early concerns with Messi. But i'm sure Giovani will be fine. We just need to give him time. If we were doing well in the League then there wouldn't be any rush to get Giovani in. We need to be patient with him and allow him to grow both physically and mentally.

thanks for letting us know but i doubt it. the reason he left barca was because they wouldnt give him the pay-rise he wanted and he was also a bit of a naughty boy as opposed to bojan.

apparently he DIDNT fail a medical. The problem they found was that he wouldnt be ready straight away because he hasnt played in a while so I can understand how pompey wouldnt sign him because he is "not match-fit". Hasnt even played any reserve games so his oly real game in ages has been the united cup game. at least we still hang on to him and i hope he comes good!

gio failed the medical, to conclude a loan deal.

following ankle surgery, the problem is recurrent - ala king knees

I am happy about the loan part.

Less happy about the recurrent ankle problem part :-|

Unfortunately, I think there is a chance he could have potential long-term injury problems, because I can't actually think of another reason why Redknapp would want to sell him so quickly. He's seemed very reluctant to play him recently, most likely in fear of injuring him further to really throw any chance of selling him last month out the window. But he's still here, and I'm sure it'll be his intentions to get himself fit, and force his way in to the squad.

You're doubting Harry's ability to flog second-hand "merchandise"?

Cheers Robofan, so it was a loan then?

The 12 year old with the phones and the name dropping habit on SSN said ' a fee had been agreed ' about 10 times at least - I dislike him even more now.....

May I ask, is Gio really rated by Harry and co? He seems to be very highly rated on here although I've seen very little in a Spurs shirt to suggest why - any ideas?

now i am 1st to admit i am no medic, physio, surgeon, so from someone that passes out seeing a shaving nick, i would not say i was the best to ask, but as i understand, the problem is fairly common when bone structures are still developing and in youngsters :eek:mg: there are bones that have not yet adhered to whatever they are supposed to adhere to Eek and the gapping in between is whats causing the re occurence

edit to include: although i am an authority on cases of man flu.

when harry arrived, gio had already sustained the ankle injury and did not attend training until a fair time into harrys regime, of course he is thought of very highly, but it is difficult to form any conclusion on his playing ability until he is seen 1st hand on the field of play, when he is ready, sure he will play some ressie games and work his way back into the 1st team without much problem.

Nothing is as bad as Kings "knees"

 i didnt mean as bad as his knees, just the "yep its all great ---oh shit its gone again syndrome

Many thanks for the very useful info Robo - but in view of this I am now just a tad confused as to why Harry was trying to unload him. I have high hopes for the lad and do hope that he regains full fitness and gets his chance.

sure we didnt publish anything official to say he was being sold ?

sky sports understands ?
sky sports sources ?

if he could pass the medical pompey would have loaned him, which would do us a service giving him match time.

Passed on from a liverpool fan that knoes people from spain in the football scene i have been told this morning...that gio has got very dodgy knees and ankles thats why barca wanted shot is this true? all this adding up with him failing a medical yesterday all seems to add up?

He would have failed his original medical with us if he had 'very dodgy' knees and ankles.

Now his bad ankle injury he sustained may have caused subsequent knee problems. This can happen because biomechanically the two are obviously very closely linked.
