GDS with a goal. He is single handily carrying mexico to the World Cup, as much as it pains me to say that.

Yeah. I'm an American.

Speaking of the US, if they don't win on Wednesday, they could seriously finish 4th and have to play in the playoff (against Argentina possibly).

Gio's Goal and Assists

Winners And Losers: Costa Rica Versus Mexico
Giovani Dos Santos. Splended effort from the Tottenham man. Dos Santos did everything right. Somehow Costa Rican defendesr left him all alone outside the box in the 45th mintue and Gio took advantage. Gio slammed a left-footed shot into the back of the net, past Keilor Navas and dealt the death blow to Costa Rica. In a span of two months, Dos Santos has grown from a prospect to one of Mexico's key players as he showed quite a bit of poise and character in hostile conditions.

Player of the day - Giovani dos Santos (MEX)

With time winding down in a rough-and-tumble first half against group leaders Costa Rica in San Jose, Spurs mercurial ace Dos Santos took the game by the scruff of the neck. The former U-17 world champion slammed home a scorching goal with his left foot on the stroke of halftime, before single-handedly dismantling the Ticos in the second half. Surging irresistibly from deep positions, he set up the two remaining goals in a thoroughly dominant performance that will have coach Javier Aguirre smiling.

I'll also note that Gio assisted for Mexico's other two goals  Let's hope this means his attitude has really improved in the last few months and Harry's seeing it too!

Would love to see him get a chance on the left against Man U. Maybe not from the start but during the match. Know it could be to tuff a start for him.

I really, really hope Gio gets some time now that Modric is out. He deserves a chance now.

Do it Harry!

Kranjcar will probably be ahead of Gio in the pecking order now... But given his form for Mexico, and a decent performance against Doncaster Gio should be given the chance...

Didn't he say he was more comfortable on the right though? I see GDS as a replacement for Lennon. Lennon has pace, GDS has a final ball and creativity.

I ageee though that Manure would be a tuff game, but I would like to see him come on in more games as a sub to break him in properly.

Gio is SERIOUSLY good. He is in top form right now and if he doesnt get any response from Harry after his quite frankly breathtaking performances for his country it will be an absolute crime.

Breathtaking?
little bit over the top he did well dont get me wrong but the costa rican defence was pretty rubbish and minus the goal and 2 assists he did little else.
Its one thing waltzing around like a superstar in a conembol qualifier its quite another being effective against manchester united - completely the wrong game for him to start.

Performances

I don't think one start is going to do him any good. I think he needs to start all the ones with Modric out to see if he can hack it.

Kranj need to earn his place.

so you are in agreement with thevoiceofreason? I cant speak for his other performances as i didnt see them only last nights match. If you didnt see the games i implore you not to base your opinion on the highlights because trust me last nights dont even tell half the story.

I also dont think giving him one start for spurs will show us anything either but i think chucking him on against united is setting the boy up for a fall and he doesnt need that at this point. for me kranky is the starter against united based purely on the fact his has prem experience and knows what to expect, Doncaster then Costa rica not ideal preparation for Man utd at Old Trafford.

He is on fire for Mexico.

He just won player of the tourney. Yeah it is not a big tourney, but winning it does not prove he is not ready for a step up.

Agree 110% Rumbaldo. As much as I've been impressed with Gio's recent performances for Mexico the Premiership is a very different animal. To play him against Manure or Chel$ki could seriously backfire. However, after those two games we have Preston, Burnley, Bolton, Portsmouth and Stoke where I think he could be given a run. And then, if all goes well, we can unleash him on the Gooners.

Well, I guess one positive to draw is that with either one of Gio-on-fire or newly-arrived-Kranjcar we have highly skilled alternatives to Luka (and even RK and Lennon) that for whatever reasons we didn't have last season.
