anyone else think with the new manager he might finally get a chance?

i still think levy was reluctant to sell him as he knew there was potential, just that it wouldnt be used rightly under harry. maybe he was waiting for the new manager all along

Do you actually think that Levy is that much of a judge of a footballer?

i still dont understand why harry had so much negativeness towards dos santos

its so clear that the kid has quality and ive always rated him and believe if we give him a proper chance he will strive .. no idea why redknapp didnt play him when lennon was out ..
its no coincidence he completely raped brazil few weeks ago and always performs very consistently for mexico

he definitely deserves a chance but i think its too late .. he will move this season

Photos of dos Santos being poured into the back seat of a motor wouldn't endear him to any manager. Why do you think Guardiola got shot of him?

Performances in internationals—particularly Mickey Mouse friendly internationals—have no connection with real-life football.

These performances in friendlies keep him relevant though, good for the valuation!

How much is he on? I reckon he earns very well considering the fanfare when we bought him. I suspect we have an option to extend his contract too, as per usual.

It' worth remembering that Harry has said that in the past his attitude stunk. He did fantastic at Ipswich under Keane and great in Spain but crap in Turkey. I think with him the chemistry with the Coach seems to be a big deal. If he could hit it off with AVB he could be huge for us but he would need to be prepared to defend.

In that case, you'd have thought he would have done really well under Rijkaard at Gala.

The kid was too immature and liked the party lifestyle too much.
however that doesn't mean he could grow up a bit and try and be more professional. The kid's got undoubted talent that's for sure, and opportunity under a new manager might be all he needs to reach some of his potential.

I think its fair to say he has a talent in their some where. He clearly has some mental issues and maturity issues that are preventing him utilising it. Everyone works with someone that has a bad attitude and more often than not they get fired, or in this case sold...

He was, and according to at least one SC member who watches a lot of Barça, he wasn't all that there.

Seems strange that Rijkaard would want him back at Gala then.

He clearly has talent and he seems to be able to turn it on at will because he is a fantastic footballer for Mexico. If somebody can get him to do it at club level then they will have a player.

I go to a Turkish barber. The guys there are rabid Gala fans and I learned it wasn't a good idea to mention Rijkaard whilst having a shave. They weren't that impressed by dos Santos, either.

Yes, he clearly has talent. But against whom has he been fantastic for Mexico? How often has he shone against top-line opposition in competitive internationals? Let's face it, Most Valuable Player of CONCACAF 2009 means bugger all when you consider that apart from the US and Mexico the participants are a bunch of deadbeats.

Maybe we should sign Milan Baros. His international record's pretty impressive.

For Spurs, he's looked good against lower-league opposition. Apart from a couple of decent cameos he's been altogether less impressive against better sides. In his first season he was outshone by Fraizer Campbell. That is not good. So, a good spell with Racing aside (and how often has it been suggested that he's better suited to La Liga), I'd love to know on what the 'Gio must play' brigade are basing their arguments.

That's a well-thought out, rational, and logically sound argument. One that I can't disagree with. But you're saying it about "Gio must play" which is not the argument I'm making.

I (as a Gio supporter, but a realistic one) have never wanted him to start. I don't think he's better than VDV, Bale, or Lennon. What I do think is that as a squad player he could be incredibly valuable. I don't think he must play, but under a new manager who will bring with him a new system, I think he could thrive.

Im not in the Gio must play brigade but I'm not in the anti carlos kickaball brigade either.

I just look objectively at a players ability and see that in this case he has great balance ( a hall mark of all great sportsmen/women ), 2 decent feet, a very good shot with 1 foot, fantastic dribbling skills, very good technique and some good strength.

I am arguing that his problem is not in his ability but in his mind and application. In fact, I would be as specific as nailing it down to desire. He is the classic case of the son of a great footballer. Sometimes they really want it themselves and sometimes they get to where they are because football is fun to play and their old mans will power has done the rest. As soon as they don't have him driving them on, a lot of them fade, especially if they are already very comfortable financially.
If this is the case, I agree with Harry for sending him out on loan to lower leagues. The player has probably suffered from never really earning it himself.
Then you look at the opposite end of the Spectrum in a guy like Sandro and his story and he has absolutely no problems with desire for the game.

For someone who rate him and would like him to have a go under AVB as well,
I must say I feel much better about the transfer if we get 8m for him.
Thought he'd go for 3 or something due to his contract situation.
