I think most players of that ilk went to Monaco because they'd get paid shitloads and wouldn't have to pay tax on any of it rather than for any footballing reasons. True, they're now in the Champions League but they should get absolutely hammered by FFP next year.
I know they went for the money. Seemed like others didn't know that (y)

I was clearing out my old match/shoot footy mags years ago. There was a transfer rumours section in one of them saying we were after Dean Windass when he was at Aberdeen! Late 90's.

I'm so glad Harry isn't in charge anymore. Whenever some past it ex-England International player became available you could guarantee twitchy was keen.

MOUTINHO

never has so much been assumed of one so average.
Stats from 2013-14 league games

Luka Modrić

League appearances: 34
Goals scored: 1
Assists: 6
Total chances created: 50
Shot Accuracy: 27%
Avg. pass accuracy: 90% (32,3% backwards)
Tackles: 49% successful (108 duels overall)

João Moutinho:
League appearances: 31
Goals scored: 1
Assists: 7
Total chances created: 58
Shot Accuracy: 37%
Avg. pass accuracy: 86% (34,7% backwards)
Tackles: 49% successful (122 overall)

I don't understand why you call Moutinho average. Despite moving to a new league and new team mates, he created more chances for his team and had 1 more assist. Monaco had just been promoted from Ligue 2, so their team is not full of galácticos, or whatever.

ah Moutinho and his goal and 7 assists. the missing part of the jigsaw of our 2013 title winning team.

how we missed him.

Surprised someone mentioned Ashley Young. Signed for Villa, had 3 seasons among the highest assisters then sold for a massive profit. Why wouldn't we want that?

Leandro, Jo Cole, Dean Sturridge, Tiago and Fabiano would all have been costly mistakes.

Leandro has to be the stand out bullet dodged in recent times

Pure hype from being a Brazilian number 9

Most of his goals were bagged at a lower level and his club were demanding top dollar for him

a few goals for Brazil in the u21 olympic team and in friendly games added to his hype but he's really not good enough and we'd have been paying Soldado money for a striker who'd probably only score a couple of goals from open play in the league - that's the last thing we'd want (thank God we're not stupid enough to do that)
