A simple solution would be for Celtic or Rangers to enter a second side in the bottom level of the English footballing pyramid.

As the 'English' Rangers/Celtic progressed through the leagues then the better players would transfer across from the 'Scottish' Rangers.

That way the Scottish league keep Celtic and Rangers, but as a second side it makes the Scottish Prem more competitive (and would allow them to develop Scottish youngsters) whilst the first teams compete in a British league and bring 2 more massive clubs (eventually) to the EPL.

Not sure how well it would be received politically by the FA's or UEFA but it should be feasible.

That's because they tried to move directly from the SPl to the EPL. If they had applied to the Football League instead and agreed to start at the bottom they would have had a better chance of success.

I find it very hard to see them withering if they started in League 2. They have rabid supporters who will support them no matter where they are, Man City used to pull crowds in excess of 32,000 in Division 1 and have a hard time believing that the Old Firm faithful are less loyal. Even with the reduced revenue they would still have enough resources to get straight to the Championship.

Once there they would probably spend a few years consolidating before pushing for promotion but I can see them playing in front of a packed house at that point which would put them a step above the other teams at that level financially. It would only be a matter of time before they were firmly entrenched in the EPL.

How much more attractive would the EPL be to international viewers then?

You clearly like the idea. Just don't hold your breath. The EPL doesn't want them and the FA does what it's told. You may or may not be right.

I hear plenty about how good it would be for Scottish football. I never hear what's in it for English football and why two English clubs would have to be chucked out of the League to accommodate the Bigot Brothers.

I don't really care about the EPL's appeal internationally, sorry. Not very forward-looking of me perhaps, but I'm a grumpy old Hector.

They would have to go in lower than league 2. I'm not sure where the bottom is but I'd guess it would be where Wimbledon had to start from when they went out of business.

Living up in Scotland I find the majority of fans support them due to them winning league titles, cups and competing in Europe. Take that away for x amount of years and you suddenly don't have a team that is so dominant and well supported. Put that in with location, ticket prices Glasgow clubs can charge compared to London clubs etc and being in a far more competitive league setup means that they would be mediocre for quite some time.

They are big clubs, but worldwide they are not in the same league as the seriously big clubs (man u, Liverpool etc).

Can't see Rangers and Celtic ending up in an English league simply because there are too many organisations opposed to it. The Scottish government would be against it as it would be a PR disaster. The Scottish FA would be against it as it would weaken them. The FA would oppose it as it wouldn't benefit English football. The Football League would never go for it because its members (especially the clubs in League Two) won't vote for something that potentially might get them relegated. The Premier League won't take the risk because the gain isn't big enough. If the PL made most of its money through attendances then they might consider the two but they don't. Adding Rangers and Celtic won't greatly increase the amount TV companies bid for the rights.

Lol...No hectoring required

I'm not English so clearly there are a lot of issues I'm not considering. I just think that greater international appeal would lead to greater tv money in the long term which isn't a bad thing when you look at how BarcaMardid are pulling away from everyone with their tv rights advantage.

Rangers can afford 1 team just now, there is no way they can get a second team together, and i cant see UEFA, FA, FIFA alowing a team to have a place in 2 leagues.

In the news, there are apparently at least eight Premiership sides in danger of the same fate.

Something has to be done about football finances. The rot has already set in and I hope it's not too late.

Yes, I heard on the radio that a number of clubs have wage bills in excess of turnover. That's Chelsea and Citeh of course - wonder who the others are.

The EPL itself seems very lax in terms of financial governance and ownership - would be good to see it take a lead and set some standards.

I've heard that Germany is pretty good with their domestic football finances

Clubs have affordable ticket prices, play good football and don't over-spend

Not too sure if this is true?

Playing for Rangers in Scotland could be fun for french/africans, as they would win the league and compete in the Champions League every year.

No way should Celtic or Rangers be allowed in the premiership, neither are premiership standard, both would be upper half/hovering around the playoffs in the championship, the idea of parachuting them into the premiership is obscene

Sorry guys no sympathy at all for them, if we had not paid our taxes for as long as they have we would end up in jail.

Celtic were in danger of going out of business at one stage until Fergus McCann came in and saved them, i did not here all the politicians and hierarchy of scottish football pleading their case, quite the opposite McCann had to fight the bigots in the SFA tooth and nail over some of their decisions.

You reap what you sew and they should get exactly whats coming to them for not only hoodwinking the tax man but the whole of football and their supporters.
