Heard in commentary that we've scored more from set pieces in the league than anyone else this season.

Surprising given how many of our corners seem to get cut out by the first man.

Any one hear this?

Yeah, I caught that. It isn't really a surprise, both Eriksen and Lamela can deliver from set pieces with quality. I feel like some of our fans need to watch other sides play more if they think Eriksens delivery is inconsistent, hitting the first man isn't exclusive to Eriksen, he has more consistency with his delivery than most.

Didn't he deliver a great corner for Dier's goal last week?
Diets great run made that goal, but I can't stand our corner routines. Why we can't just bang it into the box for Toby and Dier ect to get a head on.

Yeh Dier's run made the goal, even if Eriksen just left the ball on the corner D.

So, if we score it's because somebody made a great run, if we don't it's because the delivery was shit. I'm I understanding that right?

Shame it only takes 10 attempts before we finally deliver a good ball.

Because we're out of position and likely to get caught on the counter should the keeper catch the ball.

Highest scoring team from set pieces yet people still find an excuse to moan...

I've mentioned this before but basically I think his corners sometimes look shocking because we're targetting the near post so often. If he gets it slightly wrong it's going to hit the first man. If he clears the first man it may well lead to a very good chance for a goal as there's so much pace and whip on the ball. The stats mentioned here (i.e. we've scored more than anyone else from corners) suggest it's a good tactic. We didn't see much of it today as Southampton were putting loads of players in at the front post to cover the threat. This did seem to lead to a few decent back post crosses but with nobody there to take them unfortunately.

We get a shit load of corners, I'd expect us to be at or near the top in terms of goals scored, doesn't mean we're amazing at them.

People need to realize that the technique used to deliver a great corner leaves so little margin for error. Its funny cause for years we haven't really scored from corners, but whoever took them always made sure the ball landed somewhere in their box and we didn't really complain.

This season though we score a lot, yet we moan so much. Its just that in order to get enough pace and dip on the ball while still beating the first defender it often will fail.

I rather we score on 1/10 corners and hit the first defender 9/10 times instead of going back to scoring on 1/100 corners but making sure they always landed in the box.

But it clearly means we're doing something right and our strategy is paying off.

Someone said on the other set piece thread that if Eriksen did that in his sunday league side he'd get swapped out, I think it shows more testicular fortitude to keep trying to get the plan to work rather than lumping it in to save face.. we've had many players in the past who'd do the latter. Probably just not to get abuse but there you go..

Yeah this, we seemingly only have one 'tactic' when it comes to corners. Whip it in near post and specifically its all about Dier and Alderweireld. They mix it up but one seems to act as the blocker, as the other attacks it at the near post. We're getting joy from it in recent times but you do have to put up with numerous ugly corners that barely get off the ground and on a bad day it can be annoying. I would like to see us at least have someone coming in at the back post as the second wave of attack if the corners are over-hit (well, in terms of destination) - one for instance Lamela put in today dropped in a great area as everyone gathered at the near post but we didn't have anyone at the back post. More options never hurt :)

I think people don't realize just how low percentage set piece chances are.
