Kane scoring that deflected free kick against Korean All Stars might be the worst thing to happen all summer…

Vio has his work cut out. But for the love of god someone needs to get the courage to stop Kane wasting so many free kicks. Two massively deflected goals in his entire career from free kicks.

Don’t think he has taken one since this was posted in the league, but the record is only a matter of time

The thing I don't understand is if we clearly have no one really good and taking a good dead ball shot, why not mix it up? Have someone else run up and lay it off for someone else to shoot? Literally anything other than Kane smacking the wall everytime..

Everyone seems too scared to grab the ball from Kane and look him in the eye and say "I'm taking it!".

Everytime Sonny or Dier stands next to Kane and they whisper something to each other, it always ends up with them backing off, without even a disgruntled face. Every single time!

I blame Conte for not having the guts to tell him "You're done with freekicks Harry, let Ivan or Sonny or Eric take it, and thats because youre shite" !!

I wish someone would put together a compilation of all of Kane's free kicks set to music.

I have to admit, it's baffling. Presumably the club employ analysts for stuff like this so they must be aware of his abysmal record. He must ping them in regularly in training or something because I can't see why he still takes them and worse, at one point last season Dier started to have a go but that seems to have stopped, he'll definitely do better :D

It's baffling that he is allowed to continue to take them and it is just as baffling that he insists on doing it.

If you do something over and over again and it doesn't work, why won't you take a step back, take the pressure off yourself, asses the situation for a while, and then try again?

Worst case scenario for him, someone actually starts scoring for the team on free kicks, while he is taking a step back. He should know that's a good thing.

It all just seems so stubborn and egotistical from his part.

When we win a corner or free kick it’s normally the perfect opportunity to stick the kettle on - I’m hoping this doesn’t change

Literally the only thing I can think that makes any logical sense is that he scores a far few or more than the others in training.

Logically Kane has brilliant technique and strikes a ball better than most so you'd imagine he should be able to take a decent free kick. He doesn't though, hence my earlier post, why not have someone lay it off for him to strike, atleast change the angle and hit a moving ball? Had to be a better option because whats currently happening is clearly not working.

If it is Kane using his power to take them then he needs to take a step back and realise it just isn't working. Would much rather Dier get more chances or even Son.

Kane is proven as being very bad at, having taken over 50 - probably 100, match day free kicks. The only two he scored were kicked at the middle of the wall, with no height or dip, and massively deflected. The 4 or 5 Dir has taken have all been a lot better. Son is proven at international level (he scored two this summer for South Korea). The order should be:

1. Son
2. Perisic
3. Dier
4. Bissouma
...
99. The Kit Man
100. Kane

We have no idea wether or not he insists on doing it. He might well do, but people are bound to suggest it because it's so mystifying.

I guess that's true. But even if he is assigned the responsibility by Conte/the staff, he must have the possibility of saying that we should try something else for while? It just feels logical that it's a combination of the two, or mainly because of Kane's status.

But you're right, I'm just speculating. However, after Deki's comment about it in Korea, it is obvious the team is aware of it not working for him, which makes it even more mystifying.

Be careful criticising him in here. Some people think he's beyond criticism.

I totally agree with you though. That claim for Eriksen's goal a few seasons back showed his selfishness and somewhat holier than thou attitude

He needs to get rid of that attitude and do whats best for the team.

Its like he's telling the board "if you want me to stay, let me take all the freekicks so i can score more goals, or I'll leave"

I know I know, it can be that bad though, but the way Conte doesnt seem to do anything about it shows some kind of hierarchical fear within the squad, which is a concern

I don't completely agree with that since it's probably that same stubbornness and backing himself that has gotten him where he is today.

I do agree however that it sometimes feel like entitlement and, as you also mentioned, it is not great if it becomes a hierarchical problem.

With that said. I love the guy, wouldn't trade him for anyone, and compared to most other "stars" he is more or less a saint.
