He is still making some great saves, but thats not enough when you are making the very basic of errors.

It's encouraging teams to have a go, the more they have a go the more opportunities there is for him to make a mistake. We haven't defended great this season, but I'm sure its not exactly confidence-filling to have a keeper who drops horrible clangers at any time.

It seems every season he needs to be taken out of the team, either to refresh or refocus, then come back on form again. That needs to happen now, he needs to be dropped, and then Harry needs to make a big decision. These errors, especially their frequency, are simply unacceptable.

Bring back Hans Segers as GK coach I say!

Like I have said previously, why do we let so many shots come in at our goalkeeper, none of the other top teams allow this.

No we don't, the two mistakes came from long shots against Ronaldo and Lampard... they both shoot as soon as they get into the oppositions half. He just can't stop them. Against Chelsea he only had two other long shots to deal with and dealt with neither.

I keep referring back to the vitriol that did for Robinson in the end - a similar keeper in many ways as his shot stopping was superb yet his ability to prevent long range shots from finding the net was woeful.

Both Gomes and Robinson also struggle to make correct clearance decisions on balls being crossed in - the most recent for Gomes was in the last match when he punched a cross straight to a Chelsea player who could do nothing but spoon it over the bar.

My patience has always been thin with our current keeper, even though stats pulled up suggest he may be one of the top five keepers in England. He isn't.

I'm certain that if Harry is our Manager next season, Gomes won't be first choice. I'd be disappointed if he was.

Gomes' indecision and mistakes lately do nothing for the confidence of our ever changing back four and I would also add that the circumstances are reciprocal.

We need a backbone in the team that rarely changes, apart from injury and suspension. We need to radically attend to a distressful goals against column which in turn will give the team better opportunities to turn draws in to wins.

I would start with getting a safer keeper.

We tried that he's called Tony Parks and by normal I meant a solid keeper. One who performs the simple stuff and is solid week in week out. I.e Hart, Cech, and as of late Chesny Hawkes.

Ah, a "normal keeper" = two of the best goalkeepers in the world or a twenty year old in his first season in the league as long as you limit his efforts to the past two months. I'm sure there's a handy catalogue with just such a list of hundreds of those "normal" players in Harry's office.

Solid keepers are hard to find. Nearly impossible. The way the balls move, the way sides in the Premier League play (Delap's throws, Carroll's height, Kevin Davies' elbows, lots of long shots, lots of high balls, deep defences, etc), goalkeeping is harder here than pretty much anywhere. Every keeper makes tragic mistakes every season and they'll only get worse.

Having said that, it is evident that Gomes is really struggling and while his all-round game is outstanding - seriously, best positioning of any I know (hence why I dispute PT's comment that Paul 'cement legs' Robinson is a similar keeper); great athleticisim; meets virtually every cross; punches or slaps the ball into space nine times out of ten; comes out on the ground well; awesome distribution when throwing and knows when to kick even though it goes to the oppo; outrageous reflexes; strong wrists; catches when he needs to; makes himself big; and of course great shot-stopping - suddenly a horror moment happens.

Now, at least when it does Gomes can still pull off wonderful saves afterwards where Rob Green goes to pieces, but for weeks now we've seen him do it again and again.

That's why I understand why we want him replaced but, seriously, it's going to be very, very difficult. I can think of perhaps three players I would consider (and believe me, that list doesn't include a Man City reserve who has never brought it at the highest level and whose best days are evidently past him, having not played for two seasons - may as well play the distinctly-ordinary Cuddles). And even then, I'd only consider them and want Gomes to stay on so that one of the two would earn the position of number one rather than get it by default.

I would start with getting Modric the bloody hell out of central midfield!

Yeah, our best central midfielder playing in central midfield is the reason why weak thirty yard shots go under our goalies legs. It's all down to Modric that soft taps at our near post get palmed into our own net. Modric is the reason why instead of being turned round the post, the ball seems to pick up an opposition player seeking chip ever time it touches Gomes gloves. Let's blame Modric. He's only been our best player this season from central midfield. It's all his fault.

Oh, and I wouldn't see Gomes sold, we won't get much with just a year left on his deal. I'd see another good goalie signed, someone with a proven record of reliability, and if Gomes is still good enough he'll be able to take advantage when he has an opportunity like when Cudicini came in.
