Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan is set to make a shock season-long loan move to the United Arab Emirates after months of speculation over his future.
The 25-year-old Ghana international will join Al-Ain after becoming unsettled on Wearside barely a year after his club record £13milion-plus switch from Rennes to the Stadium of Light.
Al-Ain club made an approach to sign Gyan on a permanent deal earlier this week, but the Black Cats were only prepared to agree a temporary move.

Loaned out: Gyan scores for Sunderland at Chelsea last season
Manager Steve Bruce said: 'Anyone who has seen Asamoah play will know that he hasn't been himself in recent months. This option suits all parties at the present time and the club is well-protected in the deal.
'Asamoah has three years remaining on his contract and of course my wish would be that he finds his spark again and we see him in red and white stripes next season in the form that first attracted us to him.'

On the move: Gyan in pre-season action at Burnley
The news comes just a day after manager Steve Bruce accused 'parasites' surrounding Gyan of turning his head after he was linked with a series of clubs in the wake of his goalscoring performance for Ghana against England in March.
Bruce said: 'Since that game at Wembley, all the parasites, as I call them, hover around. People are in his ear constantly trying to engineer a deal for him.
'Certainly since the England game, when he played at Wembley so well on the night, something has been troubling him.
'It's very difficult, the constant speculation no matter what you try to quash or quell, and the people around him, the people who want to make a fast buck, shall we say, and it affects him in the end.'
Gyan arrived at the Stadium of Light last summer after starring for his country at the World Cup finals in South Africa, and was a big hit on Wearside, scoring 12 goals.
However, after being linked with the likes of Tottenham, Real Madrid, Marseille and a series of big-spending Turkish clubs in recent months, he has struggled to rediscover his touch during the early weeks of the new campaign and is yet to open his account.
His departures comes with Nicklas Bendtner having joined Sunderland on loan from Arsenal for the rest of the season after clinching a deadline-day move.

He's really not all that. Bruce has a point with the "parasites", he was absolutely shit in the later stages of last season. If he can be affected by speculation that easily I wouldn't want him at my club.

It's a loan so he can only get what he is earning

That's what I was thinking. But I'm they've managed to pay him off somewhere. And I'd imagine that Sunderland got a massive loan fee.

I would have been happy with us signing Gyan but it sounds like he's a bit of a dick. Or at least heavily influenced by other dicks.

Mind you I can understand the allure of the UAE over Sunderland.

He doesn't come across as a dick he has been supporting sunderland over the summer, even two day ago tweeting a special offer for sunderland fans,

He hasn't come out and said he wants to go like modric iirc and i don't trust sunderland atm, they did offer for peanuts to a turkish side apparently

Not from what I've seen, he isn't.

His finishing is just as bad as these two but he is quiet strong, he hasn't got a touch of a rapist and his link up play is very good and he don't look out of his depth when he is up front on his own and no one to pass to

Steve Bruce pretty much confirmed that Gyan has gone for the money. Bruce looked like he was going to explode.

Seems strange he would go there for the money because he may lose his place to ayew in the national team

Don't know what to make of this.
His form has decreased rapidly and I feel guilty for liking him after the World cup but I'm sure Bruce might be a bit too abbrasive for his own good so the guy will take the middle east money.
I think that's the only place Fernando Torres could end up.

In fairness seeing as he is about 40 now he probably wanted one last big payday, plus anywhere is better than Sunderland.

Any centre forward who wants to wear the no.3 has to be a bit of a knob-head really.

Hmmm Bruce seems to have multiple personalities!
