Modest? What 5%? eg £100k to £105k, 10% £110k, 15% £115k ,etc. is that going to make the difference between staying or going?!

Who knows. You'd have to ask the players what would make them stay. I just think our best players will over time look at inferior players at other clubs getting paid more and start to wonder. The likes of Eriksen and Toby are reportedly on around £60,000 to £70,000 pw, which given the current climate is on the low side IMO. I realise for the average punter these figures seem astronomical but the players don't think like us.

Perhaps his agent said if you are going to pay a declining Rooney 200k+ a week we won't be coming here for anything less than an obscene fortune ourselves.
Logical to be fair.

BBC saying Swansea rejected a bid of around £40m from Leicester...

I hope Daniel put a sell on % in the deal...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40550188

Swansea City have set an asking price of £50m for Gylfi Sigurdsson after rejecting an offer worth around £40m from Leicester for the midfielder.

Sigurdsson, 27, scored nine goals and made 13 assists to help save the Welsh club from relegation last season.

Everton have long been interested in the Iceland playmaker, who said in May he was "not trying to leave" the Swans.

With the Toffees reportedly demanding £50m for Ross Barkley, Swansea would want the same for Sigurdsson.

More to follow.

Levy has locked himself away in a dark room and asked to be released at mid night on 31st August.. If these are the prices being offered for run of the mill players, god knows what the price of someone half decent will be.. If I were Levy I'd get my scouts out into countries where there is still some value to be had.

Do teams still do sell on % these days? Just thinking about Siggy and Paulinho. Wouldn't surprise me if Levy stuck a cheeky 10% in those deals prior to selling.

There have been a few stories recently about sell-on clauses.

I remember Vardy's non-league team would have made a fortune if he'd gone to Arsenal last summer.

How often deals include sell on fee I have no idea though.

Slightly painful that Leicester can bid £40m for a player but we can't.

To be fair Sigurssson is probably worth at least £50m to Swansea. They aren't going to sell their best player at a fair marker rate.

There's a reason City fans think £40m is too much for Walker and Spurs fans don't think its enough.

Eriksen has to be valued at £100m and Alli at £150m looking at the prices for other players.
