Harry Kane: There are no 'bad eggs' at Tottenham – and that’s the secret of our success

Harry Kane believes Tottenham have improved so much this season because there are no “bad eggs” in the squad.

Tottenham are second in the table, five points below leaders Leicester, after losing only three of their 25 League games. Spurs can close the gap to two points this weekend if they win at Manchester City and Leicester are beaten at Arsenal.

There has been a stark difference between Spurs’ performances this season and last. During Mauricio Pochettino’s first campaign in charge, Tottenham conceded 53 league goals.

With 13 games remaining this term, they have let in only 19, which is the best defensive record in the top flight.

Asked about the difference between this season and last, Kane said: “Everyone in this group works hard and is working towards the same thing.

“Even the players who don’t play are still working hard in training and doing all the right things to try to get into the team, which is important.

“If you have one or two bad eggs, it can bring others down others — and we don’t have that. Everyone is fighting for each other and we are in a lot of competitions, so people know they will play games to try to impress the manager. We’ve got to try to keep that belief high.

“It has been another year with the manager, building his philosophy. We had a good pre-season and we have a good bunch of lads.”

Pochettino sanctioned a number of changes to the squad during the summer, which resulted in Aaron Lennon, Etienne Capoue, Paulinho, Younes Kaboul, Vlad Chiriches, Benjamin Stambouli, Lewis Holtby, Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Roberto Soldado all moving on.

Emmanuel Adebayor reached a settlement with the club last September and departed, before joining Crystal Palace during the winter transfer window.

Kane, 22, was careful not to name any team-mate, past or present, when discussing the atmosphere at Tottenham.

But he made it clear that a poor attitude would not be tolerated, either by Pochettino and his staff or the players themselves.

He added: “There are some pretty good players in this squad and everyone is together, which is important.

“There is nobody who doesn’t want to train or who tries to take it easy, because none of the players would let him do that.

“Everyone speaks up and tells each other what is needed to be done to reach the top, which is why we’ve got a great team. Everyone is chipping in and that is all we can ask for.”

I know players will frequently mumble platitudes and cliched sound bites frequently, but you can see what Kane said evidenced on the pitch, and it is the reason we are where we are.

Some Eggcellent jokes lads

I'm glad we got rid of all the bad apples either way. The only two who I think could potentially get stroppy are Vertonghen and Bentaleb, but both work hard when on the pitch. I'm only saying that because both rarely smile and have a face like a slapped arse

I do not think Harry Kane was referring to Paulinho, Chiriches or Stambouli as they were fairly new players at the club. And MoPo kept selecting Paulinho and Chiriches in the match squad when they are fit, so it shows that they most probably were at least good at training session. Stambouli was a misfit and a mystery buy. Nobody really knows that went "wrong" with him at the club. Kaboul was Captain but lost form after a while (although he sided with Ade in the "so-called bust up", i don't think he was a bad trainer. But a good Captain will not take sides and needed to be partial). While Lennon "problems" were mostly off field issues as alluded by some ITKs (Furthermore most Academy players would have "grown up" watch Lennon play over the near to 10 years at the club).

IMHO the 1 or 2 "bad eggs were referring to the "primary culprit" (1) Adebayor and his "sidekick" (2) BAE (He was still here last season, although "sidelined").

It's a very eggsciting time to be a Spurs fan.
I was eggstatic to be at the game last Saturday when we ruthlessly eggsterminated watford.
Our attack was far more eggsplosive than theirs and has been more than most teams.
Our defence has been eggstreemly hard to break down.
And we've done it all without spending eggstravegantly.

Close the door.

Agreed. (y)

Bloody good job we don't have Gareth Bale in this team, he'd bring the whole thing crashing down with his lazy attitude... :troll:

When you listen to that comment can you not begin to understand what I was saying about not wanting Bale?

He's not got the ego of Ronaldo, but he'd still effect that feeling of "no superstars" in the dressing room and he's a fucking shirker when it comes to off the ball work. I forgave him in his last season because AVB did get him seeing more ball and working a bit harder and his end product was a fair compromise but I look at what we are achieving now, without superstars. I genuinely think you mess with that at your peril. Like I said then, if it was someone like Suarez, who you know works like a fucking terrier for the team too, that would be different, I've just had my fill of talented but lazy players who play for themselves.
