Errr, what’s going on?

Genuinely confused. If he had any desire to stay, and we knew of it, how did the whole media storm get allowed to develop?

Can only assume this would happen if City didn’t pony up. They are desperate for a striker. I suppose they could wait, but I’d be surprised.

Him signing on again is not what I would have guessed at all

There’s more… this time from Guinevere via Prof…

Yesterday we received info from Guinevere that matches the above. She didn't say anything about the Man City situation, or about a new contract. However, she did say that the club arranged the location of his holiday and were 100% aware of the return date. She's been scathing about the way his brother has behaved but on this one she believes Harry hasn't done anything wrong or without the full knowledge of the club

So, he was in the Bahamas with the clubs knowledge, what about the jolly to Florida?
I can't believe that all this fuss has happened for nothing.

I met him a couple of times when he was there and he used to drink at a bar around the corner from our offices where I worked in soho. He was a really nice guy, open about things too. One time he told us he was sacking the manager the next day and appointing warnock and that’s what happened! Could you imagine that now. No chance.

I've just got a déjà vu, did you post this before?

To be fair, a new contract, with an actual release clause, is probably the only way Kane can stay at the club. It would re-affirm his commitment, at least for the year, and if he can mend fences with the club, that sends a messages to forgive/forget to the fans.

I don't think it will happen - but I do see it within the realm of possibilities.

Agreed. I was thinking this earlier. It's the easiest way to mend bridges between Kane and both his team mates and the fans. Should ensure he gets refocused for the coming season at least.

Thrash out a release clause that is £100-120m (outside of London) if we miss CL and give him a tidy payrise that last years' output deserved.

Whilst his recent actions don't deserve a payrise you can't argue with what he produced last season.

Edit: it also shows City we can't be bullied and they can't just buy who they want, when they want.

Of all the outcomes I've envisaged, Kane signing a new contract isn't on the list.
It might not be top of the list of envisaged outcomes, but it does make sense to both sides if he doesn't get sold this window. The biggest bone of contention seems to be this 'gentleman's' agreement. A new contract, with a release clause (£100m, whatever), gives much more certainty to both sides. Set at the right price it pretty much guarantees Kane's departure next year, assuming he still wants it. That means he can get his head around staying this season and doing all he can to win that trophy and be ready for the world cup.

Without a new contract/release clause, then we will be back here next year with Kane pushing and Spurs holding out. (Really, this is what should have been sorted out last August. New 4 year deal, bit of a pay rise, release clause £160m.)

Sorry something isn’t right here, why would the club not say anything, now I agree they can’t comment on every story in the press, but to allow the fans to get this angry at Harry all over a pre arranged holiday is nonsense. It wouldn’t happen. Something is really wrong here. Sooooo confused!

Well this took a surprising turn. Thought he could possibly stay, but new contract? Surely it must include a release clause someone will be willing to pay next summer if there is to be one?

You're putting a disproportionate amount of stock in some very emotive and pointed messaging by a club stakeholder.

If he signs a new contract it's because that's the best outcome his new position of leverage would allow.

He should have a new contract with a pay rise and a release clause.

That way it avoids all this crap next year.

Not saying he wants that to happen but if he is going to stay it would be a good solution.

If there's truth that the club knew then that could only mean that this whole thing was orchestrated to make Kane the bad guy. Making it easier for fans to accept letting him go. To think before last week most would have been dead against him going. Now it seems most want him gone.

A new improved contract sounds very attractive but sometimes it's not the money that motivates a player and in Harry's case I think this is one of them. The guy needs to be totally convinced that the success he seeks is well within the grasp of the new admin set up and playing squad. If we can do that and dispel all thoughts of a move to Man City so that we have a our striker back eager to make a positive contribution in the dressing room and on the pitch then I'd be more than happy.

Oh and one last thing, massively high value release clause in the new contract please (just in case).
