Will be very interested to see if a Winks / Skipp combo can work in upcoming seasons (even though I’ve been told I’m a little loco for wanting this).

Skipp also has some nice passing skills on him so would be a nice passing midfield engine room.

Do you watch games or just highlights?

I’ve watched every minute of every game (thanks for the disrespect) and today Sissoko did fuck all offensively. He didn’t play badly but his ‘job’ was to cover Trippier and he did little else. Against a team that parked the bus it was a waste of a player. I’m frustrated as he could do so much more, but today he was an auxiliary / safety net right back

He had one of our best attempts in the first half. He didn't have to cover Trippier either as Newcastle barely attacked.

Most of our players did a lot around Newcastle but not through them due to the way they set up.

I suggest you look at the touch map BBLG posted as well.
Don't reply again either as this is the Winks thread.

Impressed how he has stepped up this season when we have needed him. He seems to be getting more confident going forward, which added to his work rate, makes him a very valuable player.

Just hope he can keep up this level of progression, as he can be some player if he does.

What I like most about the Winks and Sissoko combination is how versatile they both are. We no longer have one sitting and the other getting forward. One goes the other sits. It's a far more dynamic combination than Dier and Dembele. Not knocking that duo by any means but you always knew where they would be positioned. WInks and Sissoko both get into good positions in the final third. It works particularly well against teams that sit back and defend, or even teams who attack a lot and leave spaces. You need that extra dimension to your attack and they both can add that in different forms.

I would still ensure we're more solid against the top teams but that can be achieved with either a defensive midfielder or a back 3. The duo has worked better with 3 centre backs for me, we're a bit more vulnerable with just 2 centre backs and those 2 against better opposition. I can see us going to a back 3 maybe with Dier in the future and Son playing off Kane up front. Particularly if Eriksen goes because Kane will play more as a 10 and the creativity will come from centre midfield. We just need to improve our options in centre midfield this summer because at the moment we'll miss Winks & Sissoko if they're not playing. Our other options are all defensive ones that don't offer the same dynamic as those 2.

Why are we talking about Winks? Anyway all we need to say is he’s blood amazing!! 111 passses! The spurs iniesta, just love watching him play, makes us tick in a way different to Eriksen. I knew when he played CM on his own away to Real Madrid last year and completely controlled the game that we have ONE HELL OF A PLAYER on our hands here, stylish, composed, passionate, a winner, spurs through and through, what a fucking legend!

I don't think he is anything like Carrick, I am surprised to see the comparisons, dier is actually more like Carrick.

As for Winks he is brilliant and I am really struggling for a comparison. The closest I can come to in style is actually Jamie O'Hara, not in ability but style.

He has the workrate but not the tackling of Parker, he has the passing of Modric but not the end product (final balls and shooting).

The weird thing is, now, as a 22 year old, I would put him ability wise better than the majority of spurs midfielders in my time being a fan. In fact only Modric and Carrick were better, and older when they displayed their class.

I think Winks maybe one of the few players, like Sheringham, makelele or Carrick where people will be comparing players to him in the future.

This guy could become our best player in a couple of years, Kane included!

I had and have zero doubts about this kid.

He has Kanes type of mentality.

He'll go far.

Yep I agree. I’m amazed some people don’t rate him. Surely there can be no questions about his quality now. I suspect if his name was Harry Winksinho they’d have a different attitude.

I'm glad he is Spurs through and through.

Theyll be a chance that Barca or Madrid will come calling one day if he continues this development and stays injury free

I suspect both Winks and Sissoko are playing to strict orders to protect the defence. Winks has possibly been given a bit of licence to charge forward but only on very limited occasions. Sissoko seems to have been told to cover that righthand side and allow Tripps or whoever to bomb forward. In so doing we are missing out on his surging runs into the opposition penalty area.

I can't ever see him making it with us. I think he will prove to be a glaring error of judgement by Poch who obviously has pinned his CM hopes on this kid stepping up. He can pass a ball well under no pressure occasionally but he lacks in so many other areas and I think he is too lightweight.

When he starts for us our CM moves a level down in quality. I know he's a favourite of many spurs fans as he is academy but I'm just not a fan.
Saved.

He was much better yesterday, hopefully he can continue to improve because that is the base level he really needs to perform at in CM.

Whoever said he passes like Modric, LOL. He isn't as good a passer as Modric I'm afraid.

He may one day show those types of passes, but he hasn't yet.

I'm pleased he is showing some drive from CM, which was missing from him so far this season.

Good little player. Nice engine and does his job. Not completely sure its him, i was a bit tipsy but did he fire a few passes at light speed to players 5 yds away? wish he/whoever wouldnt. nitpicking.
