It's a shame that the he can only do the one thing he does well on the pitch, when the conditions favor him. Winks is not a player you bring on when you want to try and win a game, he's the player you bring on when the game is already won and you need to rest your starting CM.
And you have at least a 3 goal lead.

Makes me also remember Mourinho’s first game in charge against west tan when we went 3-0 up and then held on for 3-2.

Winks and Dier were in midfield and we had absolutely no control and was like we had a massive hole where our midfield should be.

If I had to sum up Winks to someone with one 5-second clip, I'd show them how easily Iheanacho was able to cut inside onto his stronger foot because Winks has zero ability to read the game and put himself into the right position. Forever chasing shadows.
If you go back and look at a chunk of the goals we conceded just this season when he was a starting regular or when he's come on from the bench for the last ten mins or so to save the legs of a-nother of our midfielders and we have been 2+ goals up & comfortable he's been culpable in large part for making games nervy or comfy wins turning to draws or losses by doing exactly the same things he did wrong today.

And it's the same things he was doing wrong under Poch, José and now Conté...

And I'm not just digging him out for today or because I don't rate him at all, or because I need something to moan about after a win.

Don't really bother criticising him anymore because clear as day he just isn't good enough. Almost feel sorry for him trying to compete at this level as some of his play is pretty pitiful. Hopefully won't be seeing him after this season and he can go carve out some kind of career for himself elsewhere.
In the championship or league 1 as he wasn’t even good enough to dominate M’boro. Such a terrible player who offers nothing! Pains me to see him still here, should’ve been sold years ago!

The whole I never want to see him in a Spurs shirt stuff is a bit extreme. But if I’m totally honest I never want to see him in a Spurs shirt again.

How he had so many fans (and Poch) hood winked for so many seasons that he was actually half decent god only knows.

To think we passed up the opportunity of signing players like Tielemens because Poch thought he wasn't better than Winks.

It's crazy.

I had him sussed years ago. He's crap, and he's got no bottle to boot.

I think some are a little harsh on Winks.

He is a tidy player, would do well in a team that play 3 in midfield and possession football. He would likely fit in well at Brighton under Potter or playing abroad.

But he doesn't suit our formation and way we play at all. Play him in a two and we are left with a large hole in the middle of the park. It was no surprise Leicester scored through the middle once he came on.

Not his fault he doesn't suit our system, but a player we need to move on and get someone in who does. Not only for us, but for him too as he doesn't deserve the level of flack he gets.

I don’t think people are harsh on Winks. I think the criticism he receives here, when not made personal, is fair.

He doesn’t help himself by thinking he’s the best thing since sliced bread when in reality he isn’t even good enough to be in our 25 man squad. Under Poch, Jose and Nuno, he couldn’t wait to mouth off to the press about his lack of playing time. If he was a consummate professional like Ben Davies who we know is easily upgradeable but never moans and always gives 100%, I doubt he’d receive nearly as much criticism as he does.

I agree about the criticism of some of his performances, but I feel it goes beyond that at times. He's become the fall guy even when he is not at fault. It gets tiresome reading people mouthing off about him, there is enough evidence to highlight why he doesn't fit our system and should be moved on, without going to the extremes I read.

I do agree about him going to the press and mouthing off, that's poor and not acceptable, he should have been keeping his head down and working hard for himself and the team. He does himself no favours when he then gets a chance and pulls out of tackles. But again, he is never going to be that player. I accept that about him, which is why I don't think he should be in our squad.

I've got all the time for Ben Davies, model professional who gives 100% at all times.

Must be pretty easy to come on once or twice a month and play really well. It's not like form or match fitness are all that important.

When he was playing regularly, he wasn't playing very well either.

I have no ill-will towards him. But surely it's become clear that he just isn't up to the standard that we want, even for a squad player.

He was a very tidy player with the same kind of reputation/future that Skipp shows - he seemed to turn into a completely different player when he had that injury at Villa(?) where his hamstring went in front of the bench.

Never recovered - whether that be physically or mentally.

Back then he was a tidy, creative and industrious player. Since, he's had no speciality and seems to be a bit of a pussycat. He briefly had purple patches under Conte and Mourinho when they first came in, when he was willing to try a bit harder and play more creative forward balls. It's almost like he could still be great, but in his mind he's already reached that and can't understand why it's just not working. Like Dele.

Would probably respond well to a manager that really wants him. It's one thing to be the new kid on the block, where not too much is expected and not too much pressure is applied. That's not the case any more, and he must know that Conte really doesn't fancy him which I'm sure has an effect on his confidence and form.

Not sure I agree. New managers keep giving him a chance and he keeps bombing it, he's just not good enough

He needs moving on, he will never be good enough for a top 8 side playing in Europe.

It does get to the point where you see him standing on the touch line and you think to yourself, I just remembered I need to go and wash my car

Or "fuck me, this gives me hope that after a big pre season I could become a professional."

I think he will suit a Fulham or even a Bournemouth or one of the others who come up

I have this feeling though he will play against Liverscum.

We should remember that Conte, prior to Jan clearout, backed him and said he could trust him, so Winksy avoided the chop in that window.

Conte's decision that he's with us now .

I mean that literally means nothing. Conte was never going to change the entire midfield and get rid of Winks, GLC and Ndombele in the January window, it's just not feasible. Plus do we even know that Winks had any takers? No. We know that teams were in for Ndombele and GLC so they left, we also had the foreign players limit to consider which works in Winks favour.

There are loads of reasons why Conte has kept Winks around, and the unlikely one is because Conte actually rates him. I would be gobsmacked if Winks is still here in September.
