He's an immense bonus when having the likes of Eriksen, Dembs Lamela from the midfield missing. He will be immense for us.

Anything else that's immense? ;)

Is there a video of his highlights from yesterday with a terrible sound track out yet?

I think the current level the team is at, as unfair as it might be, Winks has to really be outstanding to have a chance at Spurs.
I was a big supporter of Tom Carroll, and to be fair to him he is normally involved whenever Swansea score. But he was never anything more than steady at Spurs. Same with Mason, same with Bentaleb and Onomah.

For me he offers the whole package as a CM. He has the vision and the ability to split the lines. He has the intelligent movement to create space in the middle third so that his CB's and the DM can find him. And he can carry it, on a string, out of the back.

For me, with the upward trajectory I suspect him to have, I think he will be a more complete player than Dembele. Call me crazy, but Dembele just doesn't have the vision or the ability to pick the passes Winksy does. That is what will eventually separate Winksy from the current bunch we have.

As for JO, I still think there is one hell of a player in there. Why he isn't starting recently for AV is mind-boggling cause in his first 3 or so games, he was the fan favorite and made the championship look easy.

Bentaleb could have been pretty special IMO

I think most would agree, but the key thing i think we see in who Poch pushes for development is a combination of talent (Bentaleb had it), workrate and attitude. Not questioning NB's work and attitude to a point but it seemed he got fed up and threw his toys out of the pram somewhere along the way, this pretty much killed things for him here at Spurs.

I still think he'll go on to be a decent player though but would benefit from being more focused with his temperament. Winks IMO has a better balance of all 3 elements noted above.

It annoys me that I still don't completely trust him.And I think that comes down to his physical size as a CM in the modern game playing in a 2.Everything else he has.Personally think he would be more effective in a 3 man midfield.sissok dier winks could be very interesting all offer something different. But doubt that will ever happen.I hate to say that once Barkley comes and a serious dembele replacement is bought in the summer he will be squeezed out. Will he be happy to remain a squad player not sure.I'd say his spurs future is very much on the edge. And this is a make or break season for him most likely.

Strange comment. Personally I've never seen Winks' size as an issue. He's 5'10 or so and uses his body well to shield players from the ball and twist away from them. Rarely see him get outmuscled in there. Also has a wonderful burst of acceleration to escape players. His physique isn't a problem.

This obsession with strength really bugs me. We play with 3 CB's and at least one DM anyway. We don't need more strength in midfield, we need guile and players who are comfortable on the ball and get the ball forward quickly.

I agree in principle - Good core strength and the ability to shield the ball are key to a good midfielder in the EPL though i would argue as there is a physical element in the league and not a lot of time and space. Good movement, positioning and vision can get around a lot of physical issues though, which is where i think Winks does have some talent.

Compared to Tom Carroll, i think Winks has a lot more presence in midfield for us and i agree that we don't need him to bring that to our midfield really in how we line up.

The physical progression for him in my view is modeled more on Modric in the longer term. Great stamina, core strength and control, combined with his vision and awareness.

Dier, Delph, Henderson, Livermore.

Are you telling me Winks isn't a better option?

/Livermore/Chalobah/Oxlade-Chamberlain

We have so few options in CM. It realistically could be a Dier - Winks partnership at the World Cup.
Livermore or Chalobah are DM's. Winks wont be competing with them
Dier, Delph, Henderson, Livermore.

Delph, I cant explain

TBH winks should be there ahead of Oxlade chamberlain

But winks has struggled with fitness

Also Winks rejected a call up to the U21's as we saw with Dier that meant he wasnt called up for the summer tournament
