Merry Christmas SC.

I just wanted to get stuck into a topic that has been really annoying me over the last few weeks. It pertains to Erik Lamela, and the expectation surrounding him. We all know that, for a shade over £25m, you should expect better from a man. However, look at it objectively, and you'll see that he's still a boy. As the old adage goes, it's not his fault that we paid that much for him - all he's doing is having a go.

It's not working out yet, but the season's not even hit 19 games yet.

I appreciate that much of the complaining is just people quietly removing him from their line-ups, but don't. This boy is something special and has shown it for River and Roma. If we actually get behind him, and the new coaches do the same, we could have a serious weapon for the next however long.

Not everyone adjusts straight away, so this is just a thread to say that I'm firmly behind Erik Lamela and hope you all are too.

Enjoy your day, wherever you are!

:)

I think he will be quality, I just hope it's with us. He does have a strange knack of taking too big a touch though. He then follows this up by leaning into the opposition player and then losing out on strength.

Who do you think you are, starting up a thread about Erik Lamela when there is already a perfectly good thread already on him? Shame on you, I say!

But seriously, well said. (y)

Fully agreed, and that goes for all our other signings too.
People need to forget the start they have had, and their price tag and get behind them and our new coach.
It's like some people have already made their minds about them and want them to fail just to prove they're right. It's not their fault they were purchased at x amount, but this shouldn't be a basis to constantly poke a stick at them.

He s trying to hard.
He needs to relax a little and let the talent take him there.
Hes got it and after a run of games im sure he will shine.
Ronaldo took a season to settle in the EPL as did many of the greats in the EPL.
Lets hope Tim sees it to.
Lamela could be he next 100 million player and he is ours.

Some gym time for him wouldn't go amiss to bulk up like Bale and Ronaldo did.

100% while Bale obviously had the natural ability and talent I think sometimes it's overlooked that obviously as a club and coaching staff we had a lo to do with how much he developed, we can help players fulfil there full potential adj that shouldn't be overlooked.

He will be fine. I already think that he is doing ok. He contributes in our forward play by creating chances and he works his nuts off tracking back. The rest will come with time.
He needs to relax a bit and not try to be bale. You can clearly see that his game is based around moving the ball quickly and cleverly and then using his speed and movement to get into good positions. This kind of interplay was just not part of avb ' s game plan and so Erik has had little to work with. Hopefully now we will see a better environment for his obvious talents to shine.

We will of course get behind the lad. We all hope he does well etc.

But who truly thinks it was a good purchase? For the money we could have bought a more complete player e.g. Ross Barkley or a Lallana. Any misgivings over Erik are not without reason for the fans.
I do not think I would have sanctioned the level of expenditure for him at this time of his career.

Now he's here and a Spurs player and he should be afforded our complete support.

Not sure Barkley is a more complete player than Erik - but definitely on a greater run of form

His ability reminds me of Taarabt, as does the tendency to squander possession by attempting to beat too many players before releasing the ball, leaving team mates who have made runs out of position. His success at Roma probably says something about different approaches to defending in different leagues; Premiership defences are very adept at using numbers to close down weaving runs, but more vulnerable to being opened up on the counter-attack by pace and power.

Lamela has demonstrated a work ethic, however, and hopefully with good coaching he will learn how to harness his undoubted talents to useful effect in the Premiership. There is more I feel that needs to be done with him than simply giving him a run of games to gain confidence. We need to keep him involved, but he is for the time being a dubious asset.

I can't helping thinking that at the price tag we were expecting a player able to make more of an immediate impact rather than one with huge potential that might or might not be realised. Baldini must be feeling a little sheepish.
