Have we blown our chances to be a top side?

We will find it hard to get back to where we were back in jan 2011. City and Chelsea were always going to be up there with the financial backing they have. United and Arse are always going to be there or there abouts. We had out big chance to build on something special but typical spurs we have blown it. Liverpool In particular amongst others have stolen a march on use.

It's not iretrievable but we really should of built on being in the champions league a lot more. It's a mystery to me how we didn't buy a top striker then. Everyone could see we needed one.

It's not quite the end of the world and to bang on that we always sell our best players, well so do our very near neighbours but with their managerial stability they still challenge near the top of the table.
Selling Bale was a financial decision but buying 7 new players and integrating 2 more in Rose and Townsend was not a good idea. The team just needed tweaks not a complete makeover. So we have certainly blown it for this season but we still have good players and providing there's not a mass exodus in the summer and we play to their strengths and not just to the managers ego we can be up there again.

I would have liked us to keep Bale this season and bring in 3 new faces, then sell Bale next season and bring in the remaining 3 or 4 new faces

It would require the financial backing of Joe Lewis, but would have been worth it in the long-run and Uncle Joe would have made his money back and then some

We haven't got 5-10 years to wait around fuck me by then West Ham and palace will be in the champions league.

I don't think it would take 5 to 10 years to turn the ship around with the right guy in charge, but we should definitely be looking to hire a manager that will be here for 5 to 10 years

I don't know ShelfBoy, it just seems like Levy is always after a bargain and a quick-fix, and this extends to his managerial appointments too

Is it over? In short. No.

When the Sky 4 dominated that was supposed to be it for everyone else. When we missed out because of Lasagne gate that was supposed to be it for us. When Ramos took us back to square one, that was supposed to be it for us.

Selling Carrick, Berbatov, Modric etc etc, game over.

We thought Liverpool were a joke until 2 months ago.

I used to be in perpetual fear of 'it' being last chance saloon everytime we just missed out, but the truth is everything can change in the space of half a season. We still have a £100m squad, a handful of potential worldies and a new stadium on the way.

Nothing is permanent or final in football. Dont panic.

Yep I tend to agree but us fans are here for the long term and that's what fucks us off.

One major concern for me is the stadium sponsorship. For me Levy's Tottenham was at its very peak in the 5-0 win over Newcastle early in 2012. We were flying high in the league, playing great football most of the time, thrashing a team in 5th, had a team with King, Modric, VDV, and Bale, and yet to see the wheels come off our season.

In a perfect world, that would have been the time to make a deal for stadium sponsorship. Even after we missed out on the Champions League, and Harry got the boot, our stock was still sky high in the summer of 2012. That was when we were at our most attractive to players, managers, and potential sponsors.

I fear it will be a long time before we're as attractive again. It might sound like the wisdom of hindsight, but for me it was evident that our appeal was at an all time high (for the Prem era), with the chance of improving on that position being a massive gamble (one that failed miserably).

Two summers in a row we lost our talisman, and now look like a shambles. The momentum has gone completely and I really can't see any big business wanting to spend millions to be associated with our club in its current state.

Its still possible we can achieve something this season given the nature of the league.

Top 4 is doubtful but its not over just yet. I'll probably concede it is if we don't beat Stoke on Sunday. Win on Sunday with a good performance, with some evidence of mistakes learned and we can carry some momentum into the United game with hopefully some players returning.

A week is a long time in football.
