This nonsense has to go!

With a back 4 that includes Capoue who's makeshift, Naughton who's not a LB and Dawson who simply can't run why would anybody even consider playing such a high defensive line!?

Still in the 93rd minute we persisted with it despite being exposed time and time again for goal after goal, with no pressure on the ball ever it's just suicide, utter madness!

Please scrap this nonsense and let's defend properly!

It is a real worry that there seems to be so much inflexibility with this, regardless of personnel. The fact that we also persist with a high line when Friedel is in goal scares the shit out of me.

He got sacked from Chelsea for playing high line, he is too stubborn to change his way.

Good bye

Only Walker in that back 4 has pace, you just won't get away with it!

The high line effectively killed AVB at Chelsea because he had the wrong personnel, surely with that experience AVB can see what we put out today would be exposed by playing so high!

The highline is good with Lloris and I want us to keep it but on the condition that we drop deeper when the appropriate defenders are not available. It gives us something different to what the other teams can do and we need something different because we can't compete with buying power alone.

I don't think in theory its a problem, but you have to get the pressing right and not be easy to cut through if you want to play it. First half though we had no pressure on the ball which allowed them to play through and at the defence too easily. Then towards the end we were just stuffed with 10 men and players out of position with some three at the back experiment. At that point should have shut up shop but didn't.

But we never get enough pressure on the ball to play so high and even if we do then today's personnel don't have the pace to cope with the times the through ball does get payed!

Today we were too high defensively for goals:

1,2,3,4&5!

But the incredible thing was we just continued to persist with it even though at some point surely we had to switch to damage limitation mode?

If it's not played effectively, you're found out at the back first. You can't play it with Naughton...simple as! It puts too much pressure on the whole defence and midfield. It won't and doesn't work. If one persists with the system without regard for the personnel applying it,...one's fucked!

How is it that my world feed commentary duo failed to identify our high line? I swear it wasn't discussed once.

Never mind Naughton, you can't play it with Dawson and he plays every week!

Alan Smith on Sky didn't have the insight to mention it once either, that alone should be enough to see him sacked as completely useless when it comes to being the 'expert' analyst.

High line? We haven't been playing a high line for weeks. None of their goals came from playing a high line, they came from players falling asleep.

It's funny that his philosophy has come back to bite him in the ass.

He was going to sell Dawson, but for all of Dawson's limitations, one thing he does have is a good attitude. So Dawson had gone from being the first team regular to be sold, to Mr Indispensable.

So in turn he sells Caulker, who would have been a better long term prospect at playing the high line defence tactic, as well as being a lot younger than Dawson.

None of their goals come from us being too high?

Good god, all 5 of them started with us being too high!

You are kidding right?

They could have also had a few more from exposing the highline, Suarez one on one with Lloris first half for example. 0-5 flattered us and thats the biggest concern. Even with 10 men we're still persisting with it, pure madness. Dawson all at sea, Capoue not knowing what day it is and Naughton thinking he was playing rugby. Only Walker is comfortable with it and even he will get exposed against attackers with decent ball control or speed like Coutinho and Sterling.

The thing is, I could except the risk of the highline if I saw any benefits of it offensively but we're abysmal in attack as the whole world knows. We attack and we only have Soldado in the box. The team is just confused in both 3rds.
