It was specifically stated that Scholes was a better player in '98, when Gazza bore only a tangential resemblance to the player we knew and loved at Spurs.
Somene followed it up by saying scholes was a better player irrelevent of
Year and we should take out spurs goggles off

The problem for me with Ancelotti is the style of football, too slow. The recent comment from Torres about the football being too slow paced, spun by the media to being the Chelsea players are too slow. This season under AVB the football's becoming more free flowing, we are Tottenham, the style's just as important as the result.

A great man once said 'The games about glory, anyone can win it's about doing things with a flourish, we at Tottenham set our standards so high that even our failures will contain an echo of glory.' Or something along them lines.

With Sherwood he's doing a good job but perhaps a bit too soon for him, would be nice to see him have a couple more years overseeing and bringing through the kids and then stepping up Guardiola style. It's a good system for me, years of working together, knowing what the players are capable of and mutual respect and team spirit, just what you see at Barca. Lets face it, it doesn't matter if we have a big draw manager as we can't pay the wages of top players so we need to make the most of our youth team.

It was actually 2 great men Mill, Blanchflower and Bill Nick, you've merged 2 quotes there, but your point is valid. There is a feeling of excitement in Spurs fans of late, partly due to the winning streak, but more, as I see it, to do with HOW we are winning.
ATM we are playing a fast, incisive, dynamic game that cuts through teams in a way that can take your breath away. Where many would applaud the attractive Football that the goons play, it doesn't really 'excite' the observer whereas Spurs Football does exactly that. They'll play 20 passes to work the ball into the net, we'll cut a team apart with a half dozen at a breathless pace.
We're not the finished article at all, but we're gaining consistency IMO and, when consistent, can beat anyone, leaving everyone talking about the performance for days.

I agree with you R.E. Sherwood too, a little too early IMO. But early signs are promising and it would be nice to see him gradually introduced into the management structure of the first team, given opportunities to manage the team in maybe cup games etc, 'cutting his teeth' so to speak, under the tutelage of someone like Aitch.

The current Brighton dream team of Mauricio Taricco and Gus Poyet will be in charge at Spurs before too long anyway.

With Ramos being the exception?

Ramos didn't have: Ade, Parker, Gomes/Hellboy, Walker, VDV, Gallas, Kaboul?, Kranky, Corluka, Bale and Modric had only just turned up and BAE was injured, Chimbonda was playing left back!

Carling cup final line up v Chelsea
Tottenham: Robinson, Hutton, Woodgate, King, Chimbonda (Huddlestone), Lennon, Jenas, Zokora, Malbranque (Tainio), Berbatov, Keane (Kaboul).
Unused Subs: Cerny, Bent.

Our team looks nothing like that now, only King, Kaboul and Lennon left.

Yes, Kaboul was there. Alongside him were King and Woodgate, Berbatov and Keane (when he wasn't shite), Bale was there too as was Bent.
So he had an established quality front pairing whereas Aitch has a burgeoning one, possibly, in Ade and Defoe/VDV and defence not too different from the one we have now, save Woodgate has been swapped for Gallas. Where the Ramos team doesn't stack up againt the Aitch team is in midfield.
However, Aitch still took the Ramos team and got CL qualifying form out of them to have us climb the table to only just miss out on UEFA Cup qualification.
Ramos' problem wasn't his team, it was his attitude.

Most games are won in the midfield, Berbatov was class and Woodgate was class and we can say there is not a lot of difference between the Strikers and defence from Ramos' and Harry's squad, but Lennon, Jenas, Zokora and Steed does not compare to Sandro, Parker, Modric and Bale (with VDV, Lennon still an option). I'm not saying Ramos is better than Harry but I'm saying that any manager would do well (Top 6 finish or better) with our current squad.

And I'm saying that Ramos wouldn't because the quality of the players is irrelevant if they don't want to play for you. Ramos alienated the team and they didn't perform for him. I don't see that a better quality midfield would change that in any way, shape or form.

Paul Gascoigne is my favourite all-time player, but...

Paul Scholes > Gazza, irregardless of year.

stupidest football comment I have read here in ages. And there are lots of stupid posts here.

I thought Redknapp signed Kranjcar ? Our Carling Cup wins over Arsenal and Chelsea were steps on the road to where we are now and you could argue that we went from a low under Hoddle, Pleat and Santini and achieved gradual progressions under Jol , Ramos and now Redknapp so before over Criticising any of these 3 think of where we were before. Clearly the squad we now have is better than under any of the managers before so who really knows what Jol or Ramos would have achieved with it ?
