The wife and I have 2 gay male friends. We have known each other for over 15 years.

I once asked them, if they were born gay, or if something had happened.

Eddie replied he was born gay, said he always knew he was. Michael told us he was repeatedly sexually assaulted at Boarding School, and that's what HE attributes to "becoming" gay.

Just food for thought.

Michael obviously needs to see a therapist as he's extremely confused! If a woman was to get raped by a bearded man, does than then lead to a thing for bearded men. No.

Michael died last month. Heart failure.

He was one of the warmest, kindest human beings I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

There's some real joined-up thinking going on here. How is it that in the same family, with the same upbringing, you can have one sibling growing up gay and others straight? This is a thoroughly ignorant viewpoint.
In exactly the same way that you can have two siblings brought up in the same family with different friends, interests, attitudes etc. usama bin ladin belonged to a well respected family who are incredibly influential in Saudi Arabia and have strong business interests in the US to this very day. He CHOSE one path while his siblings took another!

For someone to suggest that a sexual preference developed from abuse is just ridiculous

technically/genetically scientests still don't have a clue what causes a human to be homosexual. But they say it has zero to do with upbringing or environment.

I was raised pretty much on a steady tv diet of He-Man and Lion-O through the early years of childhood as well as having the toys

That is a worrying notion. Not judging the posters friend at all, but allowing trauma of any kind to effect your life isn't healthy.

Really?

How many times have you read in the newspapers that someone arrested for abusing their children, (whether physical or sexual) were victims of the same abuse when they were children?

Different circumstances and tangent of course, but I had no reason to doubt Michael.

Why would he lie when his partner openly admitted to being "born gay?"

Just doesn't make any sense to me personally.

Condolences but I don't think DubSpur was suggesting that wouldn't be the case. I've not heard of someone being Homosexual because of abuse at the hands of someone of the same sex (assume that's what you meant). That might be my ignorance though

Thank you for your Condolences, and I take no offence at all to DubSpur's view or your own.

All are of course entitled to their opinions, just knowing the man for over 15 years made me believe him.

Yes but an adult abusing a child does not lead to homosexuality. Child abuse and homosexuality are not one and the same thing. One does not develop to the other. Child abuse may lead to a perversion which develops more abuse but this has nothing to do with homosexuality.

I'm going to leave this thread now as I'm beginning to get far too wound up by the levels of ignorance and bigotry displayed here. I'm passionate about this because I am gay. So when I hear people say I need salvation, Im unnatural, or my sexual preference is related to pedophilia than I understandably get a little wound up.

I enjoy this site and would rather not suffer a ban as a result of arguing a subject with people who are at best uninformed, at worst, bigots.

Fair enough, and please accept it was never my intention to cause offence.

Not sure if that's sarcastic or not but i'll rate it friendly for the time being (y)

Not at all mate. Bit of a fucking stupid comment really. Just because I'm not religious doesn't mean I should mock those that are.

Interesting that your apology for apparently being offensive contained the ridiculously offensive term "batty man"...

Ah, the man who believes tackling Climate Change is of secondary importance to saving the the whales.

The man who has developed his own synthesis of Christianity and Islam.

The man who has 'proved' that Jesus was spirited away by Pontius Pilate and Joseph of Arimathea.

The man who in the past has posted singularly repulsive, ill-informed, homophobic garbage.

That is you, isn't it?

Now you're ignoring the mass of scientific research that, if it hasn't reached a definitive conclusion about the trigger for homosexuality, has dismissed the notion of choice as a factor. Instead, you've posted this half-baked twaddle. That really isn't a surprise.
