Is that an easy question? Probably not.

Are our new signings better than what we have and will they start? I have a soft spot for Vlad but I can't see him getting the nod over Fazio and i'm not sure Benji will get the preferential treatment that MS would have got had he signed so i'm not even sure if he's a starter?

Lloris

Walker Dier Vertonghen Davies

Capoue Benji

Lamela Eriksen Chadli

Soldado
I can't decide if Rose is better for us or Davies. From what I've seen of Benji (YouTube. yeah, fuck off) he's got a bit of skill and seems to hold himself well in tight situations.

I know, i know. I've put Soldado in. Why? because fuck you, that's why. :woot:

I imagine that Fazio will play alongside Jan to start with, and I'm assuming that Rose will get the nod over Davies for the time being.

No idea who we'll play in midfield now as I know practically nothing about Stambouli. From what people have said, he is also quite defensive so I wouldn't necessarily expect to see him alongside Capoue, unless the latter is told to get forward a bit more.

The three behind the striker pick themselves really as the alternatives (Lennon, Townsend and Paulinho) aren't exactly sparkling.

As for upfront I just can't see Soldado being picked to play that role. We need someone who can hold the ball up and, erratic as he is, I think Ade is still the better player for that position.

But to be honest I'm a bit confused about the balance of the squad now (other than in defence) so I've got no idea what we'll do.

Dier - Fazio - Vertonghen - Rose

Capoue - Sambouli

Lamela - Eriksen - Chadli

Ade

Depending on Walker's fitness.

so little love for Dembele these days, apart from mine. He might pass slowly but his presence and retention means not much goes past him. I want to see him given a good run. Never seen Benji play- is he right, left or two footed? fat chance of the latter I spose.

also, when we have to attack the old two banks of four, after falling behind like on sunday, or when the lesser teams park the bus, id like to see ade and kane both in the box.

Dembele over Capoue, at least if he gets into form he has the quality to dominate a PL match. He is very underrated and I believe potentially best player at the club.

I just think he slows play down too much at the moment. I think he's got the attributes to be a success in Poch's setup, but at the moment his killing of the tempo is a real problem for us.

I actually wonder whether he may be better suited to a role in that three behind the striker.

Surely fazio has too start?

instead of Dier? Would be a bit harsh to drop him. If Walker is out long term we could probably squeeze him in.

My line up is fully fit players by the way.

weve looked really dodgy in all three prem games defending set pieces and other crosses. as well as against pace. Hopefully Fazio will address the first weakness. as for the pace issue, im not sure we have a solution in the squad, other than to sit a bit deeper, until walker comes back and can get round on the cover at least on some occasions.

My assumption was that Dier was brought in a bit more for the future, whereas Fazio is the Kaboul replacement.

Whilst Walker is out I'd expect to see Dier at right back though.

As good as Dier has looked, he's only 20. He's not going to play every game and I'm pretty sure that's why Fazio was brought in, the proof will be in the pudding but at the moment I'd bet that Fazio and Vertonghen will be the main two once everything has settled down.

In big games I wouldn't be surprised to see:

Lloris
Walker - Fazio - Vertonghen - Davies
Capoue - Stambouli
Lamela - Paulinho - Eriksen
Soldado
Arguments to be made for Rose, Dembele, Chadli and Ade depending on form.

Whilst walker is out, Naughton over dier at right back, otherwise the rest of the team picks itself.

Chadli ----------- Soldado ---------- Lamela

Eriksen ----------------- Paulinho
Stambouli

Davis ----- Verts ---- Fazio ----- Walker

Lloris

Subs: Vorm, Dier, Rose, Capoue, Ceballos, (do we have a young creative midfielder), Kane.

I think that is possible our strongest line up.

The fact that Stambouli is more defensive is a good thing isn't it? It'll allow Capoue to get on the ball higher up the pitch rather than being quite as deep as he is now where his passing isn't being used to best effect and his defending isn't elite.

Ade on the bench?

No.

I just think he is highly overrated, inconsistent and not at all suited to a high pressing game.

Sunday, he just ran around like a crazed lunatic, constantly out of position...

I just don't rate him at all.

Sorry.

Anyone know what formation Montpellier tend to play and what position Stambouli played within it, would he have been a single holding mid for example?

This is what I mean...I don't really know.

Is Capoue the player that can create from a bit further forwards? We haven't really used him in that role since we signed him, but that doesn't mean we can't.

It's just very hard to know how we'll use our selection of central midfielders.

I like this, but not sure if I'd start Stambouli (never seen him play) over Capoue in the holding role to start with in the league. Would also be tempted to start Dembele over Paulinho just to give the midfield some running/dribbling power. And would still start Ade for now until he has a few bad games in a row.

Chadli ----------- Adebayor---------- Lamela

Dembele----------------- Eriksen
Capoue

Weak points about this, well the front 3 are not prolific in terms of goals. And i'm not too sure if that would change, would be tempted to put Kane in for Chadli as I think he'd get in better goalscoring positions although Chadli did well against QPR.

Also apart from Walker the back 4 is not that quick (does Fazio have pace??), so not sure how successful the pressing game would be, probably highly likely to concede goals on the counter.
