Sure it was, I'd seriously question Levy's sanity if we paid £26 mil for a striker with no scoring record. But Morientes had an excellent scoring record in Spain and wasn't great here. If he can his potential assumes he has the potential to be a good scorer here. I am not saying he doesn't, and hope that if he gets his chance he performs. But for the moment, I'd have Ade all day long and to be honest we shouldn't be relying on Soldado to hit his potential at his age and stage of career. He should have done a lot better last season and if fit and playing this season, he has no real excuse other than maybe he just isn't cut out for this league.

I agree with that, I think Soldado has to earn his place in the team by coming on late and playing well/scoring. If he gets the chance and performs then bring him in. Soldado was clearly snatching at chances last year in a team that created little. I would be interested to see what he can do when gelled into this new team.

Much like Lamela and Eriksen I think he deserves a fair go at this year before being written off. Unlike Lamela he has serious competition for his place in Adebayor and until out performs him he won't come in.

Absolutely, I will always get a bit wary when people say "he should be given a chance". He was last year and as it was his first year I am not writing him off but as you say he needs to earn his place in the team like any other player.

If Soldado and Ade miss the same amount of clear chances and yet Ade scores more goals, then surely that just adds weight to the fact that Ade gets more chances as a result of being far harder to defend against than Soldado?

Soldado doesn't look close to being a consistent scorer/threat.

Yeah, he was crap that year, after returning to the ACN where his friends were murdered. PTSD will do that to you mate.

What about every other season where he's been a consistent goalscorer everywhere he's been?

That season was an anomaly in a long term premier league career, yet you grip to it even though he recovered last year and was our top goalscorer, despite not being involved for the first quarter.
That happened before he signed for us, so you can't use that as an excuse for his bad year for us, especially when he was so good in his first year for us (though his finishing was piss poor at times).

That being said, after that tragedy, it's amazing he can still play at this level.
