On one hand, I am not opposed to keep him if we have a nice finish of the season, because I'm afraid that a rebuild will be put on hold if a new manager comes in. Getting certain players out may be more important.

With that said I don't think we should pass on Nagelsmann if we have the chance to get him.

If we win the league cup and somehow finish top 4 then he might stay on. However, I think he’ll go in the summer even if some people on here want to give him a chance. Plus, if the rumours last weekend turn out to be true, then he’ll be off to manage Portugal after the Euros. It may come down to whether we can bring in someone high-caliber in the summer.

If he did stay he’d have to win 4 out of every 5 matches, otherwise the boo boys in the stands will be telling him to fuck off.

I look at it this way: Jose is divisive and some describe him as toxic. Sometimes you need something toxic to bring out the other toxins. When Poch left it wasn’t as obvious as it is now which players we need to ship out.

Ultimately, the way this squad is starting to shape up with younger players emerging (certainly in defence), we need a younger, more dynamic manager.

I think we need to clear a few people out of the club; going into the new season with clouds over the place is never a good idea.

The thing with boiled eggs is that if they crack slightly whilst simmering (obviously I heat the water from cold anyway) I actually find it makes the shell a lot easier to remove once they’re finished cooking. Seems the slight water ingress helps to separate the shell from the whites.

literally the wrong website.

my point still stands, though.

Its obvious he’s starting until the end of the season at least. Not sure a trophy & top 4 will be enough though to save his job.

If we can get nagelsman in the summer and Kane is happy to go through one more manager change I would bite the bullet and make the change if not I would keep Jose as long as we make top 4 I don't like his style of management but I don't think he is many players away from a really strong side. A top centre back, right back and replacement for Hugo and his style could work with skipp to come in the midfield. It still wont be great to watch though as his style is totally reactive and he doesn't believe in controlling possession unless the opposition completely allow it.

One thing that's guaranteed is that a new coach isn't dramatically improving us within the space of a few months. If they're any good they'll establish a way of playing etc which will generate a small improvement but no real success will be had until the bad eggs are gone. What will happen is a clean slate/olive branch from the new manager, the players will perk up temporarily which will give Levy the horn, there will then be less upheaval than what is required in the summer and the players will revert to their usual tricks by Christmas time. Levy then needs to back that new coach when this happens before things can improve again. Parallels to Poch in 2015.

So if there's anything Jose has got on his side you could argue he's observed the attitudes of the players and knows what is needed to turn things around. Under Jose, there is therefore more of a chance (albeit slim) of things turning around very quickly by next season if we have a good window, because there is more chance of us cleaning up the stink in the playing squad.

To be honest, you could even make the above case knowing Jose isn't fully up to it because the priority, even over the manager, is a fundamental refreshment of the squad. Because Pep would struggle to get a consistent tune out of these guys. What Jose has in his favour is that he probably knows more than anybody who's up for the fight right now.

I’d see how things go between now and the end of the season. I actually quite like the guy, we have been massively inconsistent under him though, how much of that is down to him and how much of it is down to the players remains to be seen imo, not to mention the effect this Covid season has had. No crowds, congested fixtures etc etc.

I don’t think it’s a fair assessment of anything tbh. That’s not to say I think he’s doing a great job, or he shouldn’t be sacked if we don’t get Europe, but these things need to be taken into account.

Does he deserve a chance to clear out the malcontents in the squad and get his own core?

Probably.

We can’t afford to spend another 12 months declining or treading water. But at the same time if we bring in another project guy that’s what we will have to do while he builds his team.

It sounds like the earliest we can sack him is at the end of the season, so at the end of the season. Hopefully we can win a cup and scrape into a top 4 spot and part on really good terms.

Absolutely not a chance in hell he is getting sacked if we win a cup and qualify for the Champions League, nor should he be.

What happens if we do?

Well aside from the obvious concerns surrounding @yankspurs ongoing sanity, I imagine losing out on the money Europe brings after the money we’ve lost due to Covid would be a big deal.

Not to mention the up and coming teams like Everton and Leicester who would continue to steal ground on us.

I would have voted for « give him until the end of the season and fuck off regardless ».

Mostly because it’s hard to see what could constitute a turnaround at this point. Getting top 4 whilst playing young players consistently would go a long way. Win the LC too?

Would have to be dramatic to overcome 18 months of frustration

After seeing the amazon documentary on spurs for the first time last week it struck me that Levy is in awe of Jose just my observation and may or may not be true . If indeed it is true it may get in the way of making a decision that may have been different if he was not in awe of the man . Of course I could be talking rubbish if my observation is wrong .

If we were to get Champions League then he definitely stays for me. Not that we have much of a chance at all in the final, but winning the league cup probably wouldn't be enough if we finish outside of Europe. I don't have the hate for him that others seem to have. You could easily claim that 5th/6th is around our level with our current squad, but you also have to say that balanced against the "pragmatic" style of football, he should be judged on his ability to get us results.

For 2020–21, the winners get a place in the UEFA Europa Conference League. A good incentive to lose.
