How much of it can we keep together?

comparing winning it back then to the potential effect of winning it now is stupid. The past 2 times we’ve won it our squad and club has been a mess and there was no long term plan, however now we have a team and squad that has been together for 3-4 years and are continually improving and growing together so I think for them just having that taste of winning and lifting a trophy could propel them to win more.

On your second point, it’s about 4 games we’d have to have won to get to the final and 3 of those could’ve been with our 2nd string which gives them more minutes and keeps them happy, then we just play our best XI in a one off final game so I completely disagree it would depleate our squad at all.

Going far in cups is down to luck of the draw, it's not as easy as simply playing a 2nd string to the final, we tried that against West Ham didn't we?

Being two nil up at half time was halfway there but then the team decided that they could play at 50% for the second half which I think is more the reason than 2nd string is the real answer.

when we won it in 1999 it never did us any favours, it didn't give us the winning mentality or we would of beat Newcastle that same season in the FA Cup semi final, or Arsenal in the semi's the year after that.

when we won it in 2008 we then went on a complete shit run to finish the season, 8 games into the new season we had 2pts from 8, got to the final again and lost

as it's not been pointed out to you yet 2 trophies in 26yrs. I agree not good enough, and winning the Carabao Cup this season with a depleted squad would take it's toll on the rest of the season.
I would point to us winning the league and cup double in 1960-61 then retaining the cup the next year. Then winning the cup winners cup in 1963. In 1971 we won the league cup, then won the Uefa in 72 and won the league cup again in 73.
in 81 we won the FA cup then retained it the next year, then went on to win the uefa in 84.

We have an excellent manager and better players than we did in 1999 and 2008. I think winning a trophy, especially against one of the oil rich clubs would give a huge boost to all the staff at the club. Once the players get a taste of glory they will want to repeat it again.

Whatever the rights and wrongs, for a club that trades so heavily on ancient newsreel of blokes lifting cups for its coin to so publicly dismiss the winning of said cups in the future strikes me as odd

So we’ve just had bad draws in cups for the last 25 years have we?
And our 2nd string was good enough to beat West Ham we just fucked up badly

I can't understand how poch and levy fucked up the transfer window so badly. In defence we can swap almost every position and still look fairly strong at the back, yet in the final third if eriksen and kane aren't on it then we are in trouble.

It annoys me when i see people say sell alli and get someone else in like that is really going to help. We need strength in depth not replace one for another.

Rose shouldnt have spoken out about the clubs transfer policy but he saw what was coming, another season of frustration. Now he wants out and by the end of the WC we may see 1-2 more gone as well.....Toby and eriksen would be my guess.

Our lack of creativity depth is the biggest worry. Too much reliance on Eriksen.. Our recruitment or lack of it in the summer has finally come home to roost. Sanchez was good business, but I'm unconvinced by Aurier and Llorente as they are no upgrades on Walker and Janssen.

We approached this season too arrogant in regard to thinking we could pick up this year like last season with the same resource and without taking into account our key rivals all strengthening their squads..

The only irreplaceable player currently I’d say is kane and maybe Toby. Everyone else is replaceable with the silly money we’d get for them.

Not with the wages we pay they won’t be. We also won’t be getting involved in any bidding wars.

We’ve been here before. In football terms, the key players here are worth more than they money in the bank and any hypothetical signings.

It's because attackers are more expensive than defenders on the whole. That's why we don't buy them. All the good ones now are £40/£50 million and want over £100k a week in wages. We are still trying to do it on the cheap (njie, nkoudou,Llorente) or making bad expensive decisions (Janssen, Sissoko).

I'm hoping that changes with us going into the new stadium next season but I will be surprised if we do.

Ok so I’m getting a little concerned that some of the players heads may be being turned which may be influencing the way we are playing.

I also think they’ve put in a mammouth effort over the last 2 years and start of this year and seeing us so far off the pace this year + their good old pal Walker earning 3x what they earn and more than likely picking up at least one trophy playing the best football in the league must be frustrating. It must also be infuriating for Poch who is probably getting mentally drained by the 24/7 rumours of players leaving us but the sad fact is as we pay lower wages and haven’t won anything of note in 25+ years, unless we get very close or get to finals or start buying in some big name players, our players heads will be turned.

Lloris: Huge Poch advocate and ambassador for our club as captain etc but he is 30 now and surely could move to a Real Madrid or PSG and win something and I wouldn’t blame the guy in the slightest.

Dier: Man.U very interested in him, would be paid more, they are in title race and won 3 trophies last year.

Toby: could go to any top club in the world.

Rose: See Dier + Rose is a prick for that outburst earlier this year.

Alli: Madrid May want him + probably others and I think he’d chase the money and lifestyle.

Eriksen: Barca - more money,Camp Nou, play with Messi etc

Kane: hopefully would be the last one to go but he is 24, if by end of next season, when he’ll be 26 I think, if we’ve still not won anything it looked any closer to, I think he will seriously consider moving to a Real Madrid etc.

Poch: Could move to Real Madrid, PSG and said in his book teams who want to win it all wanted him. How long will he put up with squeezing every last drop out of this squad getting us to overachieve but knowing we more than likely just won’t win anything.

I know it’s only a league cup but I’m just so so disappointed we went out of that this season because we all know that with the Wembley factor this year would be really tough in the league and I just think for all the teams hard work just winning a small trophy together would kick start them, that feeling of having the winners medal and trophy would push them forward. As it is I think we will get knocked out in one of next 2 rounds of the CL, if we can’t beat Burnley, Swansea, West Brom, Leicester we will struggle over 2 legs vs some of the best teams in Europe. And then there is the fa cup which we’ve not got to a final in for 25+ years.

There is so much positive with Spurs and what Poch has done and I’m sure this current form is just a blip and hopefully we can turn it round and end up top 4 at least but I just really start to think it could all unravel and for me the team looks tired, lacking confidence and lacking effort most worryingly and I wonder if there is something going on behind the scenes, Poch doesn’t seem himself either. On one hand the direction the club is going etc is so so positive but on the other hand when it’s not going so well on the pitch all the depressing off the pitch stuff smacks you in the face and the reality of the situation is that we are in a tougher fragile position with our squad and manager and I don’t trust Levy to manage that 100%, Poch yes, Levy no, he’s a great businessman but not a football man.

What do people think about the players above and Poch and the whole team, how likely is it if we say finish 6th and trophyless that this whole team will give it at least one more year in the new stadium(if it’s even ready by next year)...

I agree as I have been saying all season that if we don't win anything substantial this season I hate to think what side we will be putting out next season. The combination of another season without a trophy and poor wages.....or at least a lot less than the top clubs.....could see the core of the side gone. I'm not so sure about Poch leaving to a biggerv club as he has nothing to show the RM or Barca etc that he is a winning manager. He has to prove himself just as the players do.

If offered £200m for dele + eriksen would I take it ? I’d be sorely tempted. Yes it would be a risk but they are certainly not irreplaceable there’s a pretty long list in PL I’d take over them right now. Salah mane sane de Bruyne martial hazard Sanchez. Obviously these players aren’t obtainable. But my point is if you know where to look there’s probably better out there. For me both are just too inconsistent.

I would certainly take £100 mil for Ali. As I said on another post I think what you see now is what you are going to get, a player who is brilliant in small doses but on the whole to many flicks and losing possesion to easily. I also don't think he's a team player. I know he's still young but sell him now before his value drops.

Another question maybe how much do we actually want to keep together. Maybe last season was as good as was gonna get with this group and it’s just gone a bit stale. Maybe they feel that was it, we gave everything we had and it wasn’t enough. To pick yourself up and go again must be tough. Depending on how the season pans out it may be best for some players and Us to say thanks and let’s try another way and freshen it up. Not wholesale changes but maybe let Dele or eriksen go.

I'm not sure the form will suddenly pick up like others are. Right now I'm feeling like we're not going to get top 4 and the league season may fizzle out.
However suggesting we should let go of two of our best players is nothing short of ludicrous. Eriksen isn't even at his peak yet and Dele is just a kid. We need to be adding to them, not having to replace them and add too.
