I am NOT at all positive at the way things have gone at THFC. It is not
Ramos etc.....but a general malaise that is evident throughout this sorry club. We were odds on to get Top 4 for the last 2, or maybe 3 seasons, but it seems to have gone badly....to be kind! It is not too black but one gets the feeling that we have as well as 'wasted' our time for that time....and not very much has come out in our favor.
I have confidence in Ramos but just about. He has not turned us into Top 4 just yet and we should wait until next season to pass judgment...BUT the clock is ticking and he MUST produce the goods rather quickly!
I am not confident right now.....I hope that 2008/09 will be a damned sight better than 2007/08 COYS!

In the 06-07 season we finished 5th, fair enough we finished there because we wernt better than those above us and we were better than those below us. But the season before we delivered, only for a HUGE slice of bad luck did we miss out on 4th place on the last day of the season.

Give Ramos time in the transfer market and a whole pre-season and i think you and i both will see a top four team in no time.

Robbo - I believe is staying
Cerny - Free
Chimbonda - £4-5m
Stalteri - £1-£2m TOO HIGH! £1m max!
Gardner - £1m
Kaboul - Loan him out or at least £5m
Rocha - £2m TOO HIGH!
Lee - £3m TOO HIGH! will go for under £1mil
Tainio £2-£3m
Ghaly - £2m
Berbs - £30m (if Sheva is worth it, so is he)

You would be shit at selling players! and you'd get laughed at by clubs when they ask how much for these players!! :duh:

The thing is that getting rid of that list above doesn't actually massively diminish our squad.

Yes we need to replace Cerny and Robbo with two keepers and obviously we need to replace Berbs but other than that it's not as if we're leaving massive gaps.

Chimbonda going is barely a blip on the radar, Rocha and Kaboul can be covered by one centre back replacement and Dervitte, we have sufficient cover for Lee and without Tainio we still have four central midfielders. And on top of that Ghaly, Stalteri and Gardner are obviously surplus to requirements.

So I really don't think it would be a problem getting rid of that many at all. If we start looking at the next tier such as O'Hara, Dawson, Boateng etc then maybe it would be silly, but those 11 can go without causing a problem.

I'd agree with you on that analysis,

Possibly we could use the 20mill from the bunch below to replace them with only three players: One new top level goalkeeper and one young prospect, and one top notch centre back. If the young goalie cost les than £2 mill we could blow £8 mill each on the first choice GK and CB, use berba's transfer fee to replace him, and then spend the whole summer transfer budget minus Modric's £15mill on new midfielders.

Robbo - 4m at least. Tho neither he nor we want him bench sulking, surely there will be enough of an auction to raise this.
Chimbonda - 4m or more - he's surely worth this much on ability.
Stalteri - 1m or more, so long as the contract has a year left
Gardner - 1m. at least
Kaboul - 4m plus May have reduced his value by ranting out.
Rocha - 1m plus
Lee - 2m still a v good player at this level
Tainio - 2m
Ghaly - 1m.

I don't agree.

It is a numbers game guys. We will be on four fronts again. Remember what happened on a couple of occasions this season re centre backs? King and rocha out - Zokora playing CB????

Our squad has to have numbers in depth - we can't approach four tournaments like Everton or Blackburn would with skinny squads.

The trick is to keep the depth but to replace the weakest link. It's what the top four do each season. They can put out a second, possiby thirs string that could compete well with the lower half of the Premiership.

Remember Keegan's recent rant when he reminised about looking over at Chelsea's bench and seeing the likes of Cole, Lampard and Schevy there and then looking at his own bench?

Well for his bench read ours. We need to dispose of one or two - in fact Ramos has alluded to such - and replace them with players who add additional strengths to the sum of all parts.

Yeah of course we need depth, and that's even more the case now we'll have 7 subs. But my point is that we can get rid of 11 and still have reasonable depth if we bring people in.

With those 11 gone we have a squad of 21 without even bringing people in (bar Modric). If you add to that the occasional sub appearances from youngsters then it's a squad of 25 or so.

Once you add the 6-8 players we'll bring in that's more than a useful squad. United have never looked light in terms of squad this season but they've had to make do with a couple of youngsters on the bench even in the champions league.

Get rid of the chaff and bring in some wheat, blood some of the youngsters and we'll have a strong enough squad to battle on 4 fronts.

My bad, he was quoted a while ago saying "my contract expires next summer" I assumed he meant this one.

So for a 31 year old, who never plays & has 1 year left on his current deal, I don't reckon we can expect any more than £1.5m.

Looks like King thinks we will net about 50 million. I think it will be about 40 million. I would like for Kaboul to stay. We need to find a GK, CB, LM/W and Striker. These four should cost about 8 + 9 + 15 + 15 = 47 million.

Robbo - £4-5m - Piss poor reputation now, levelled out by the fact he could recapture his 2004/2006 form for another club.
Cerny - Free
Chimbonda - £4m Worth more but hes very close to 30, and everyone knows hes got an attitude.
Stalteri - Free
Gardner - £1.5-2m Hasnt had the games or exposure to warrant a higher fee unfortunately.
Kaboul - £3m - No one in their right mind would pay any higher...attitude now suspect, an amazing prospect, but hes made many mistakes on the pitch....he now DEMANDS first team football etc.
Rocha - £1m - See Gardner
Lee - £1m - Good servant, but not a lot left on his contract and Ramos will obviously sell at this kind of price.
Tainio - £1.5m - Not one of Ramo's favourites....Ramos isn't about to hold out for the highest bidder if you know what I mean.
Ghaly - £1m - No way back at THFC...and everybody knows it...be lucky to get more for him.
Berbs - £20-30m - depends who and how many clubs come in for him.

People are pricing players too high on here.

I think we can all expect a lot of "undisclosed" fees for some of the above players...as in, we'll let a lot go on the cheap.

£50m would be nice, but I would probably be happy with £40m too.

Capel £11m?
Veloso £16m?
Striker £16-20m?
Goalkeeper £4-10m?
Central defender - £6-10m?

Hmm who knows, it's going to be an interesting but very long summer!

That's alot of crap (and one sad departure) to get rid of but will it make us much money to invest in some decent players?

Incidentally I know there are some others who may well be on the way (O'Hara, Dawson, Boateng, Taarabt, Ekotto etc) but they all have question marks over them.

There are one or two in there that have done very little for Spurs, but most were part of the team that brought consecutive 5th place finishes and the squad that Jol was told must make the top four or else.

Suddenly they are "crap"? There will be more than one or two Premiership managers looking to buy our "crap".

Ironically it may be Berbatov that fails to get the money we expect. Unless Man United and one of the Spanish or Italian giants have funds and are willing to compete for his signature, he could be going for Bent money.

Robbo £4mil
Cerny nothing he's here on loan
Chimbonda £5mil
Stalteri £750,000
Gardner £1 mil
Kaboul £5 mil (hoping his price wouldn't completely diminish after 1 season)
Rocha £750,000
Lee £500,000
Tainio £1 mil
Ghaly £2mil (some say he has impressed at Derby)
Berbs £25 mil

Total £34 mil

We'll probably sell one or two not on the list as well. I think we need another defender, two very high quality midfielders and a new striker.

I was hoping by the end of this season we could be looking at stability but it just isn't happening.

I surpose you think Levy is a bit :duh: for some of the things he has done as well.

Those players (apart from Rocha now) are international players. The only thing that would make the valuation of them any lower is if their contract is prity much up.
