How much will we get in for this lot?

Here's a list of the players I'm fairly certain will be moving on this summer and was just wondering how much people think we'll get for them?

That's alot of crap (and one sad departure) to get rid of but will it make us much money to invest in some decent players?

Incidentally I know there are some others who may well be on the way (O'Hara, Dawson, Boateng, Taarabt, Ekotto etc) but they all have question marks over them.

For what it's worth I think this is how much we'll get...

Robbo - 3m. He won't be happy to sit on the bench and I'm not sure Ramos would want him there anyway.
Cerny - 0
Chimbonda - 4-5m. Reckon we can bludgeon a fair bit of cash out of Villa
Stalteri - 1m. Think Fulham will take him
Gardner - 1m. A championship club may take him
Kaboul - 5-6m. Hasn't played well and hasn't done himself any favours by opening his big gob. Off to Pompey
Rocha - 1m. Seems to have not had a look in under JR
Lee - 2m. Not sure why he was so shunned but probably back off to Holland
Tainio - 2m.Seems to have said he'll leave in the Finnish press
Ghaly - 1m. Just hope he fucks off quickly
Berbs - At least 25m if/when he goes. Levy needs to play hardball.

That would leave us with a minimum of £45m to play with without even thinking of the extra money the board may invest.

I don't think our squad will be diminished to that extent though because to replace the quantity ans well as better or at least equal the quality will severely dent the coffers that is expected to pay for the jewels.

The thing is that getting rid of that list above doesn't actually massively diminish our squad.

Yes we need to replace Cerny and Robbo with two keepers and obviously we need to replace Berbs but other than that it's not as if we're leaving massive gaps.

Chimbonda going is barely a blip on the radar, Rocha and Kaboul can be covered by one centre back replacement and Dervitte, we have sufficient cover for Lee and without Tainio we still have four central midfielders. And on top of that Ghaly, Stalteri and Gardner are obviously surplus to requirements.

So I really don't think it would be a problem getting rid of that many at all. If we start looking at the next tier such as O'Hara, Dawson, Boateng etc then maybe it would be silly, but those 11 can go without causing a problem.

I know what this thread is about and I dont want to take it off topic, but I'll be pissed if TT goes. In a side where we need grit and determination, he is one player that has it in spades. Perfect player to bring off the bench in tight games.

As for TT I agree with you and have always liked him...but from what he said in the Finnish press recently it sounds like he's off.

We still need to have a squad, so other players need to come in who can cover gaps and sit on the bench in case. Needless to say a few players we have never heard of will come in and replace those going out. Just wonder if they will actually be an upgrade or just new faces for old

In agree we need a squad but like I said above if we get rid of those 11 then it doesn't actually massively diminish our squad. With those 11 gone our squad would be...

GK - Alnwick
RB - Hutton, Gunter
CB - Woodgate, King, Dawson, Dervitte
LB - Ekotto, Gilberto, Bale (all can play left mid)
RM - Lennon, Taarabt
CM - Jenas, Zokora, Hudd, Boateng
LM - Steed, O'Hara (plus one of the LBs)
STR - Keane, Bent

That's a fairly reasonable 20 player squad when you consider there are youngsters who can come in aswell. We can then actually use the 45m+ on getting in some first team players that some of those players can be back up to.

Basically our squad is stupidly large at the moment and losing 11 of them before remodelling wouldn't harm us at all.

I am NOT at all positive at the way things have gone at THFC. It is not
Ramos etc.....but a general malaise that is evident throughout this sorry club. We were odds on to get Top 4 for the last 2, or maybe 3 seasons, but it seems to have gone badly....to be kind! It is not too black but one gets the feeling that we have as well as 'wasted' our time for that time....and not very much has come out in our favor.
I have confidence in Ramos but just about. He has not turned us into Top 4 just yet and we should wait until next season to pass judgment...BUT the clock is ticking and he MUST produce the goods rather quickly!
I am not confident right now.....I hope that 2008/09 will be a damned sight better than 2007/08 COYS!

Someone please check the odds for the past few seasons, but I'm pretty confident we'll find that we were not odds on to finish top 4 in ANY of the past 3 seasons!
