I'd be quite surprised if any of Adebayor, Townsend and Paulinho start to be honest

I agree, an interesting read.

I often forget he tried to take Holtby to Southampton so shows he rated him despite him still being a 'bit-part' player for us at that time.

As yet, until the season is here and Poch' has afew games under his belt, as to 'How Tottenham line-up' is anyones guess and I think the only name we can be 100% of Lloris!

I'm looking forward to this season alot more than the last few. Despite all the incommings last season, I always felt very apprehensive with AvB and the loss of Bale. This season though, I feel quite the opposite and the more I read about Poch', and the more I see of the players lookign relaxed and happy, the more I feel we made the right decision with Poch' and hopefully he can prove that straight from the off (y)

"The harsh reality is that if he could maintain form over an entire season, Adebayor would not be at Tottenham."

I think it should be "more than a single season": 07/08, 11/12

It's a bit of a weird article, has a few digs at the club but I suppose that's to be expected.

Strange that he wrote quite glowingly about Holtby but then didn't put him down as starting. I don't see Paulinho starting but could be wrong, will be interesting to see who lines up from the beginning on Saturday vs Schalke.

Because he has done a couple of good things against low level opposition?
Because Pochettino has been raving about him more like.

I actually think the article is kinda poorly researched at parts. If only because it assumes Dembele is battling for a central spot behind the striker. IMO Dembele is actually competing for a place starting in the deeper positions.

Also saying Townsend has guile and versatility is a new one. I reckon it'll be (assuming we don't sign anyone new)-

Lloris
Walker Kaboul Vertonghen Davies
Capoue Bentaleb
Lamela Eriksen Lennon
Soldado
I think the front 4 will be very fluid changing positions ect.

Who to play along Capoue is anyones guess but I see Bentaleb as being quick on the ball and not s defensively fragile compared to other options. Of course Schneiderlin will start alongside Capoue if we were to sign him.

Also it could be either Chadli and Lennon who starts. But I have put Lennon because of how he has been utilized this pre-season. Holtby may well also find himself starting. But not instead of Eriksen but either deeper or with (With Eriksen or Holtby playing of the left).

You're kidding right! He was bloody awful defensively on numerous occasions last season.

Hi guys,

First off - really appreciating the feedback and the link to the article. The formation is more how I see it ending up, once things have settled down.

As for Holtby - I think he'll get a fair amount of game time this coming season. Poch thinks highly of him, and I've been really impressed by him in pre-season.

I'm a big fan of Eriksen, I think we all are, but I think he still needs to adapt a little to make the team work, exude a little more energy/demonstrate higher 'work rate' and bring other players into the game in a way that benefits their own individual styles.

Anyway, it's all about opinion (the West Ham one tomorrow is incredibly damming!) but pleased this one's being discussed at least.

Cheers,

Rich

Yeah, it's not really told us anything we didn't know.
The basis of the side is probably there but anyone of us, here, could do that.
However, there were links at the bottom to similar articles for Chelsea, Crystal Palace & Man Utd, which I found far more interesting. So I guess this article is more for the casual fan or someone who supports another team, hoping to get some insight on how to best us.

I think if you checked last season's stats, you'd find the idea that Eriksen needs to work more it's a fallacy. He regularly covered more ground than anyone on the team. He's also more used than most to this kind of formation, due to his time at Ajax.

Large parts of last season he was played out of position on the left wing - which would naturally increase his distance covered stats compared to someone in the No.10 role.

As for the formation, it's not a given that the tasks assigned to each player are therefore universal to that line-up. A full back for example could be asked to stay deep in a back four, whereas others are instructed to push on. I think it varies, and that's why Lamela is also being considered for that central role (as will Holtby) who each have a different style to Eriksen.

I think everyone was. what I meant was that he isn't afraid to get stuck in. As is shown by his high tackle and interception rate (His tackle rate at 2.6 a game was the highest among our midfielders and joint second in the squad, while he was the 3rd highest midfielder for interceptions, behind capoue and sandro,on 1.7 a game).

I think we would be stupid not to base our team around Eriksen at the moment. He really is an exceptional player. I think he does work hard and I think his build up play is actually very good. Also he deserves to start just because of what he can do in set pieces.

What he does need to learn is to be ever slightly more consistent. But I expect a big season from him.

Rich, really appreciate you coming on here on.
I think you have everything spot on except for thinking that Townsend will start. He has never really pulled it off for Spurs. He has amazing ability and energy though lacking a footballers brain. I'm not sure if Poch can put something in there but for me Lennon is much more a team player and pre-season has shown that he might back to his best. Most of us here tend to agree that Townsend won't pass when attacking and his shooting and crossing accuracy are woeful. Apart from that I tend to agree with everything else. It looks like we will be signing the Argentianian defender Musacchio so Dawson will finally be let go.
