I know exactly what you mean, Hudd should try and model his game on Carrick, he is the perfect role model. The point I was making is that even though Carrick is not quick, he has mobility, and can jockey players. Its all very well having good positioning and awareness, but if your body can't respond quick enough you will still get by-passed

I agree about what you're saying with his mobility, but if he at least aniticpated it would be an improvement. Half of a players quickness is in his head.

Sheringham was notoriously slow but bcause he was playing it out in his head first he could respond quicker than someone who only responded to what they were seeing.

I'm not particularly quick, but when ever I played center back, people always mentioned my pace. All I was doing was what ledley says, turns his body side on, so he's ready to run and anticipates the through ball so he's ready for it and can respond quicker.

I don't know of it'd work with hudd because of his slow mobility but it wouldn't make him any worse. Unless he judges it wong of course

Huddlestone is far better suited to a contential game, where build up is slow and technique is favoured over frenzy and speed. He would excel in Serie A, where I noticed from viewing the 3 teams in the CL quarters that they all had a glaring lack of pace within their respective teams.

In his first few games, Palacios was covering the whole midfield-Jenas was as much of a bystander as Huddlestone was against Burnley in all of those games until Chelsea where Jenas put in a good shift. Based on that, i think Hudd should at least be tried in a 4-4-2 as he is infinitely better on the ball than Jenas is, of that there can be little doubt. If Palacios can cover the whole midfield, as he did against Hull, Arsenal and Boro to a slightly lesser degree then im sure him and Hudd would be a success.

Selling him would be utterly ridiculous

Ha ha yeah you're right it was like playing with 10 men before Chelsea wasn't it? A Hudd thread becomes a 'have a pop at Jenas' one. What a shock...

This is absolute bollocks and if you look at the stats against Arsenal you will see that this biased viewpoint was quashed, along with the 'jenas only passes sidways' bollocks.

Woodgate singled Jenas out for praise against Villa, after he and Palacios had an EQUALLY sloppy first half, Jenas turned in an awesome performance second half. BOTH of them bossed the Boro midfield, BOTH of them contributed to the Hull win.

I'm really getting sick of this favouritism, they're both working extremely well. In fact, Jenas is giving away less stupid freekicks than everyone's new favourite Palacios.

Well done. I would've added 'big fat hairy' between 'absolute' and 'bollocks' but it does the job...

Its not about him being quick, its the fact that he has the turning circle of an oil tanker, thus any player with decent mobility can bypass him with a simple change of direction.

Spot on. Barry isn't quick but he's mobile and agile.

The Hudd is a lovely passer, probably the best one we have over the full range, and his technique is so superb that it's obvious this side of the game comes easy to him. But as DN says his agility is almost non-existent and his mobility is limited to say the least.
I wonder if a player with the above characteristics can really make it at the top level in this day and age of 100 mile an hour football played by and large by athletes. Certainly not in a 4-4-2 on a regular basis.

Also is he strong enough mentally? I wonder sometimes to be honest. It's very difficult because he is a lovely player and I really enjoy watching him but next season could be make or break for him at Spurs. I doubt he'll go on loan and certainly not to a non-premiership club. Can he force his way into the side? I have my doubts but things can change quickly....

yeah still a bit bemused why people are refering to his comments as moaning? Seems sensible answers to questions about his current role at the club. He attributes no blame to anyone he just says he wants to play first team football. I hope all the ressies feel exaclty the same.

The issue is not that he wants to play for the first team and not the ressies - that's good.

Its the fact that he is moaning and whinging. The line "I didn't come here to play in the reserves" is a whinge and a dig. He should take note from pavlyuchenko and man 5 years his senior who is also on the bench at the moment who merely reiterates that he is happy at spurs and is going to fight hard for his place. That is all Hudd needs to say in this situation, not piss and whinge that the manager doesn't talk to him, that he didn't come here to sit on the bench and threaten to reconsider in the summer - thats a whinge.
