Huddlestone in advanced role?

Anyone think that if ramos decides to change from the standard 442 formation next season as has been mentioned on this forum that huddlestone might be good value in an advanced role where his vision and passing ability might be of better value to us. Sort of reversing wat ancellotti did with pirlo at milan. I noticed him playing quite high up the field when we were chasing a game this season and every time he got the ball he gave the defence something to think about. Also with less defensive responsibility he could turn into a match winner. Could be a bullshit idea but just wanted to hear some thoughts

Hudd's always looked pretty good to me when he's been given license to play further up the pitch. Takes him out of the Carrick role, and into the Riquelme mould. It also gives him less defensive responsibilities, which can only be a good thing!

I can't see him leaving this summer - he's just made an England squad (albeit a 30 man provisional one), and IMO he has shown steady improvement in the not-inconsiderable number of games he's played this season. Can't see Ramos wanting to part with him & I can't see the Hudd wanting to leave.

His long range passing is good but him, luca and keane providing for bent making runs could be dynamite in a 4231. Have decent distribution from the back if king, woody, bale and hutton are fit. Provided berba is going obviously. Never hurts having someone able to tackle up their either.

Hudd looked pretty effective against Chelsea at WHL. I think if he stays further up the pitch from CM we need a dedicated defensive screen. He also loses a lot of his passing range.

He can be a match winner, but he still seems like he needs the team built around him, which I don't think we can afford to do at the moment.

Let's hope that our midfield for next season can start working as a "Ramos unit" and that Hudd will be a part of that.

Hudd is ok BUT not anywhere near CL quality....yet and the signs are not too good right now. Modic 'should' be the BIZZ and Hudd will find it harder and harder to eclipse that....but who knows? We can but wait and see what happens......COYS!

I do think Hudd's best position may be as an ACM. As well as his vision and passing ability, he also strikes the ball better than anyone in the squad. If I remember correctly, a certain Glenn Hoddle even played Big Tom as an attacking CM during his brief loan spell at Wolves...

Hudd is an awesome player, maybe next season Modric will actually bring the best out of him. If anyone else is on the same wavelength as him, it will help him, also, players will have to look to close down Modric as opposed to stifle THudd. If we took away any defensive responsibility on Huddlestone's part, it will make him a better player IMO.

Hudd will be on his way...the odd excellent pass, every now and again, shouldn't hide the fact he's not fast enough and can be very erratic...someone like Blackburn will come in and buy him.....suggesting he will be a firts team choice with Modric is laughable!!!

This has been suggested before and I think it could work for him there, his passing and vision can do lots of damage. My only concern would be with most teams playing with 1 or in some cases 2 holding midfielders how would he cope being more or less man-marked? Would be interesting to see and definitely worth a try.

He lacks the mobility to get back and help out defensively. I would mean that you would have to play two defensive central midfielders behind him. It would leave the team very narrow with the only width coming from the wing backs.

It would work from time to time, but he also tends to lose the ball too easily.

I prefer to use him in the quarterback position.

Huddlestone will improve, modric is untested as of yet, why is everyone bulling him up only to knock him down?

Theirs no way we should be selling a player of Huddlestrones qualities... My earlier thinking was that the team should be built around him in a 5 man midfield...but that is very hard to do when you have a player like Robbie Keane guaranteed to play (nothing against Keane but have come to a conclusion both can't play in the same team) Huddlestone because of his visionary play IMO needs players buzzing around making runs. IMO Hudd plays better with Lennon and a striker willing to make forward rans...(always thought Hudd played better with Defoe in the team)

The funny thing is that I think he would fit in perfectly in the Champions League, where players tend to have a little more time on the ball than in the Prem League. He has such excellent passing that with that extra time he would be a real asset in the Champs Lge games
