The impressive thing is we were without King and Woodgate for starters, no Jenas either and we had Crouch, Pav, Bentley all on the bench, we do have strengh in depth, I think just 1 more signing for centre midfield and we should be good for the season.

Another point: all Summer, we've had the press yammering on about "Harry's clear-out", "all but three players for sale, "major overhaul of the squad".

Quite a few people here have been going on about us needing the perennial, mythical "two more star players to take us to the next level".

And I've been muttering "just keep the players we have and work on the teamwork and the mental strength". We didn't need anyone. There was exactly one player whom we signed this Summer in the starting line-up tonight - and he wouldn't have been there except for injuries.

Make a list of players whom posters here have slagged off, month after month. It would include: Huddlestone, Defoe, Keane, Assou-Ekotto and Lennon. There has never been anything wrong with these players. They're all superbly talented footballers. There was just something wrong with the team.

Early momentum, it's something we've not had in the last couple of years. Now we've got it let's take that confidence and make every game a cup final. Never say die, last minute winners or equalisers, team spirit.

Jol's first 5th place had all that with a group of players that were inferior. Really happy tonight, let's keep it going. Well done Harry and the boys.

Wasn't it Dave Bassett, the dinosaur era former manager and chum of Dennis Wise?

Dave Beasant was a keeper, he had a brief spell with us late in his career.

It was! Both me and H_L appear to be getting confused. I blame him!

Sorry that just can't be. Everyone on SC knows 2 things:

1) keano and defoe can't play together, and
2) hutton can't play behind lennon, because then lennon plays crap

do we have rip up all the cliches now ?

(not directed at you bobishism)

thats a bit unfair, it was Jol himself who said the two couldnt play together, obviously we just werent playing the right top of football. ie. massive hoof up the field from Robinson

For the first time in a while, I don't particularly dislike anyone in our team.

Well, Ok, maybe O'Hara. But only because he's sub rate and living off of his Spurs ties.

I'm as delighted as everyone else, but can I just point out that we won the exact same two fixtures last season?!

Can I just point out that we weren't as convincing in either wins last season.

Harry even said, Liverpool murdered us at the lane last season, it was robbery for us to have won that match.

At hull, we played well and put in a decent shift....but scraped the win thanks to a woody header.

Nuff said.

Last year we started by losing to Boro and Sunderland and had six points though ten matches.

This season we've beaten Liverpool and Hull to start the season.

We should send Ramos and Jol a DVD of this game to show that defoe and keane CAN play together

2220: Hull City boss Phil Brown after his side's 5-1 home defeat by Tottenham: "I don't think, hand on heart, 5-1 flattered Tottenham tonight - they were fabulous. It's difficult to say to our boys to go out there and do what Spurs do because the gulf in class looks alarming. Luckily, though, we don't have to play Tottenham every week and next up we have Bolton, where we'll need to dig in and respond. The fact is, though, that anyone who played Spurs tonight will have got a hiding, I think."
