Unlike most such tabloid articles, this one does have quotes.

England striker hopes to prove point against Germany

Jermain Defoe hopes to give Spurs boss Harry Redknapp another reminder of what he can do when England face Germany on Sunday.

The England striker started the season on fire, scoring 21 goals for Tottenham by the middle of February.

But the 27-year-old was then substituted in 11 of Spurs' last 13 games and did not start the other two, adding just three more goals to his tally.

Redknapp

explained his decision to keep taking
Defoe

off by saying "I wanted more from him than he was giving me."

But after securing a place in Fabio Capello's England squad, and being recalled for the must-win game against Slovenia, he answered Redknapp's criticism by grabbing the goal that kept his country in the World Cup.

Unfair

"I don't think Harry was being fair," said Defoe.

"My performance in the win against Chelsea

was probably my best of the season. My movement was good and I felt sharp.

"I injured my hamstring, which set me back a bit. But I got myself fit again and got back in the team."

Defoe has played under Redknapp at West Ham, Portsmouth

and Tottenham, with Redknapp signing him for Pompey from Spurs in January 2008 and then taking him back to

just 12 months later.

But Defoe, who will be looking to improve his tally of 12 goals from 42 caps against Germany, is eager to play down any suggestions of a rift with his club boss.

Although the pair have not spoken directly, Defoe expects to hear soon from Redknapp, who has praised the striker since he has been in South Africa.

"I have played with Harry almost all my career and he has always been fantastic with me, phoning me regularly, ever since I was at West Ham," he said. "I am sure he will be in touch soon."

Well, thanks to Mr Capello, it didnt happen....

Harry will be in touch alright, to remind you that you have only 2 weeks holiday, and not four, and that you are expected to be back in training the day after your holiday ends.....

Hopefully he will work really hard in pre-season again and come back buzzing. Harry expects more from him which is understandable considering the start to the season he had last year. Improving his upper body strength seemed to do wonders for him and he looked a different player, if he can do the same again this summer with some more work on his movement he could step up to another level. I hope.

Defoes always been a half a season striker. Need an upgrade ASAP

Well Berbatov only used to get going after Christmas, so if we could get him back, play Defoe till the New Year, then bench him for the sulky Bulgar. Sorted.

It's an argument for Defoe/Keane with Defoe being our striker until January when we loan him out.....and Keane returning from loan in January to take his spot.
