For decades and before the Taylor Report the WHL record gate was 75038 and Old Trafford was 69000 something.

How is it that OT now has a capacity of 75000 plus and the current WHL (not the NDP) can only be developed to hold 36000 ?

Old Trafford has had a lot of work done on it over the past few years so I guess they must have just rebuilt stands to have larger capacity / able to have another tier built on top of them.

Ok...so we were not able to do the same ?

Yes bro.....but same for both ?

A new East seated Stand was built at WHL to add to the West Stand by the time we had 75038 in vs Sunderland.
Think is that standing capacity counted for a lot of ticket sales.

Plus, having been to OT, as I'm sure you have, it has at least one three tier stand, does it not?

Well, it costs money and by the time OT was being improved Man U had started picking up titles.

Yes my friend but arent we desperately trying to spend (borrow) such funds now and if we had a suitable venue we would be right in there ?

Somebody fouled up i think when we did the last change to the grounds dont you think ? Didnt leave scope maybe ??

Well, there's a difference, surely, in redeveloping stands 20 years ago and flattening the stadium for a brand new one now, that also includes public regeneration?

I wouldn't be surprised if the West Stand was the biggest cock up. Anyone know what the capacity is?

You see ... We were the "biggest" club in the land followed by the former Second Division outfit Liverpool some years later.

Things go in cycles. Man Utd will not remain top dogs, an inevitability.

To be top dog a stadium holding 60000 with the scope to increase that is a must and Levy knows that. Not many clubs can fill such a stadium, Tottenham can.

The new UEFA financial rules supports clubs such as ours but only if we get that big stadium.

So i go back to my original question. How come WHL went from 75038 to 36000 when OT went from 69000 to 75000 plus ?

Yes i know what you are saying cuz but i am hoping this thread will bring forth some hard evidence stuff from someone cos the fact we dont already have a "big" stadium puts us in the predicament we have...i.e. We cant compete for "big" players.

Old Trafford is in the middle of an industrial estate, I'd imagine they've had little or no resistance to their expansion plans. The only complication being a railway which runs alongside the stadium, OT's expansion would/has been relatively cheap and straightforward. Contrast this to WHL and other inner city stadiums (Anfield & Goodison for example) planning permission here meets more resistance and is likely more complicated and expensive. It's why the OS was such an attraction to Levy. Today however, the BBC are reporting potential good news for the NPD :)

Thank you thats all good info.

For me, the NDP does not cut it though....56000 vs 75000 or even 60000, ?

What do you guys think ?

Aren't these financial rules meant to be in place now ?

If so why are they having no effect ?

Is it lack of enforcement perhaps because they would contravene(eu?) laws ?
Just that we have to wait for them to have an effect , or are there too many loop holes to exploit ?

Is there really any chance of the football industries brightest lights like Barcelona and Man Utd being forced to sell off their best players ?

We're constrained by the residential streets around the stadium which means that we can't build larger stands in place of existing ones. Other clubs haven't had as much of a problem.

There is a problem competing with Barca and RM even with the change.

Premier Lge clubs are a collective tv money-wise.

Spanish clubs are able to negotiate their own TV deals.
