I loved Martin Jol, and still have a tiny hope in the back of my mind that he'll come back to Spurs in some form in later years.

But. And this is most definitely a large but, there were a lot of very unhappy people around the terraces, on radio phone-ins and the family place you speak of was definitely more in Jol's first full season, as opposed to his second. I'm not saying I don't want him back, or don't love him, but the beginning of last season was not a happy time to be a Spurs fan, constantly in the papers (as Newcastle are now) and the butt of everyone's jokes. I'm also not saying that was Jol's doing, but the family feeling kind of ran out after his speech at the end of the season before he departed.

And maybe that's a sad indictment on us as Spurs fans, rather than anything else. :-(

German league is diferent to here, Hamburg have been one of the top sides for a number of years now.

I think you will realise by January that this comparison is null and void because Hamburg have sold top players like Kompany van der Vaart and Zidan and only brought in Petric and Jansen (top LB). Thier depth isnt sufficient, bt sayng that the teams around them are poor.

The Bundasliga is a weak league these days, financially only Bayern can compete in the market, and on the pitch. Gone are the days of Dortmund and Leverkusen getting to CL finals.

I do miss Martin Jol, alot, but I think you have to think of the fact so much of our side has changed, Ramos needs much much more time. Its rash reactions like this which makes our managerial turnover record close to that of......NEWCASTLE

Guys, have a little faith! Jol is the past! Never forgotten, but its time to move on and do the right thing

support your bloody club!

If Jol would have been in charge v Chelsea, we would have got bugger all. Ramos is far more astute, but he has to step up to the plate pretty quickly now. Honeymoon well and truely over.

So, when we went away to Chelsea in the Cup, with a poor side and went 3-1 up playing superb football, would we not have won if we had King and Woodgate at the back defending a 2 goal lead? Would we had won the CC final if it wasn't for Woodgate? It wasn't Ranos or Poyet that marshaled Drogba and scored the winning goal, but a top class defensive signing. Had we not signed that player, would Ramos had still be viewed as far more astute? Of course not. Basically you can't compare fairly as though the name of the team is the same, the players involved aren't. Surely you can see there is a massive difference between having Woodgate and King at the back as we did in the CC final and Dawson and Rocha, as we did in the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge.

I'm pretty sure that Jol said he would come back one day. I remember he compared it to another manager that left a team and went back to manage them for a second time.

Anyone else remember that?

I agree with many of the sentiments expressed in this thread, Martin was a good man and a good manager. And like many others miss the Jol era, when we came charging out of mid-table mediocrity (it would be nice to be there now!) to challenge the top 4 and play in Europe.

I have an enormous amount of respect for Ramos and certainly don't think he should be sacked--though I don't think he is blameless for the poor results either; but my feelings on the matter make little difference as its ultimately up to the board. My guess is that they will treat Juande just like Martin if he doesn't get results soon.

I seriously doubt it. Jol was on about £2 million a year, whilst Ramos is reportedly on about £6 million. So, the compensation they'd have to pay for sacking Ramos so early in his contract would be huge. Ontop of that, Comolli would have to go (Levy said he'd take the balme if Ramos failed) and again compensation would have to paid. With Jol they thought they had someone better they could turn to, but it's unlikley we could attract a big name now. So the financial implications and lack of decent alternatives will mean Ramos is far more secure than Jol was. With Jol, Levy had people whispering in his ear that he wasn't a good coach. These are the same people that chose Ramos, so they are also going to defend him, as their reputations are on the line. I think the only way Ramos will get fired is if we are in the bottom 5 at Christmas and even then he might survive until the end of the season.

Jol is a great great manager. The only problem he had (imo) is that he let the players get fat and unfit... was it his job to keep them fit? Ramos has an employed dietican that tells the players what to eat? If jol had Ramos's staff i.e that dietican and Gus and these players (which arguabley he may not of been able to get but) IF he had these players then i truly believe we would be top of the table... ok ok top 4....

He shouldn't be laughing at Juande's misfortunes like this though.

No slating from me, I thought it was a very good, sensible post highlighting the change over the past year and I couldn't agree more.

When BMJ was about, there really was a buzz around the ground, it shent shivers down my spine just walking up the gangway towards the pitch, because you could sense some magic in the air.

With Juande, I'm afraid I don't feel it. He's got a great record, but 10 wins in 31 games in all competitions is a poor return when we want to crack the top 4.

I'd love to give him time, but the gap between the top 4 and the rest is growing as fast as a runaway train. It's now or never for us, we can't hang around.

I don't think realistically we can even consider Spurs even remotely threatening the top 4 anytime soon, right now, i'd be happy with 12th.

Well, here I go...

Untill yesterday I believed that Ramos is the one. Till 8.06 pm last night I had always wanted to shout out loud "MJ was our manager - get over it now". Up untill Villa's goal I always thought that White Hart Lane is the place where opponents don't want to play because Yids' support is the greatest. Oh well.

But that has all changed. I'm not against anyone at the Club [apart from Mr Commoli] but during MJ times we were a team with a soul and heart [plus brain if you want] - now I can see the difference. Yesterday our players looked like they don't have a clue what is going on around them... No plan of action, playing out of positition, no movement...

Do I want MJ back? I can't say "yes, please"and can't say "no" really. I'm somewhere in between. As someone before me said "If MJ'd had Ramos' staff it would've been different" - and this is the statement I can agree with.

900, should you start this chant, I'll be singing too...

Juande, don't you love me anymore?
