I saw a tweet from a news source earlier saying he'd decided on Schalke, but nothing since. Wouldn't be suprising if he chose Schalke, champions league, plus a lot of dutch players go to the bundesliga?

If getting him on a loan means we don't have to spend a princely sum on Willian, I'm all for it!

I don't think he'd want to go to Schalke over us. The fact of the matter is that he would play one of the wide positions in their 4-3-3 and they have Farfan and Holtby plus they have bought Obasi and Barnetta as the L/R backups. So he's going to go there to fight with 4 players whereas he could come to us where he'd rotate in and out with just Lennon. If he wants playing time, we are a better option.

He operates from the left for Holland but I've seen him on the right for Barcelona.

Afellay can play either side so would offer cover/competition for both Bale and Lennon.

IMO he could also play centrally in the right formation.

A good player but if we sign him I think it will be a Levy decision rather than a player that AVB has requested. Affelay's problem (apart from his injury record) is that he has a tendency to disappear for long periods during games. AVB likes his players to put in a serious stint. For all his skills Affelay isn't a workhorse when he doesn't have the ball and I can't see him in AVB's pressing system.

Affelay played CM and DM in his last year for PSV. He can play practically anywhere in midfield and upfront. Good transfer for Schalke, this will probably mean that Huntelaar will stay and not opt for a club like Liverpool instead.

Never got the excitement over this kid. I watch every Barcelona games, and I never saw anything impressive from him. Fine player, but nothing to do in a squad like Barcelona, and has nothing over Bale and Lennon.

Refute, you said he has never done anything impressive. This was a semi final CL game against Madrid and when he came on with 15 min. left he broke the deadlock with his assist.

I think he's sometimes overrated as well, but he's better than Lennon imo.



Affelay and KJH were very good together in this game, I can see why Schalke want to have both in one team.

That was a good pass for Messi, but nothing Lennon can't do on our right flank. The rest was just sideway passes.

I don't doubt he has qualities, but never saw him as a Barcelona quality player.
