I agree with what has been suggested....generally and with the squad available etc. That said, however, I am too 'long in the tooth' at this stage to expect a 'storming start' from our team (call it a fear if you like lol).
As things stand we are looking pretty solid and 'up for it' but the same was said last year....and the year before that....but to what end. The other Top 4 teams are looking like strengthening their respective squads, and qith Top Quality additions....so where will our own transfer dealings leave us in August? I have faith in Comolli and Co but....as a Yid I take very little for granted, until we have a healthy lead over our lesser 'rivals' and competitors....COYS!:grin:

If that team were to stay fit, I think we'll do great things next season.

I toy'd with the idea of putting the Hudd in there. I love the guy and I think we'd tear some teams apart with that midfield. Against the better teams though we would need more mobility and running in the middle which JJ or Zokora would provide.

Can see Two Saints coming on after 60 minutes and I think Steeeeeed will be prefered as it will give the midfield some more stability and more protection for Bale. Zoko over Jenas. Jenas and Modric will not start the season in the middle, nor at any point in the season, baring injuries. If those two do start in the season, then the one huge hole which needed feeling this summer will not have been, namely a Defensive Midfielder.

With this formation, Dos Santos and Modric would have a truely free role and would have to cover wide. Also, Lennon could play instead of any of the front four as it is a really versatile formation. With Keane and Berba's movement this formation could work, although I don't see Juande ever considering it.

For the 1st game of the season, away from home i would start with:

I've dropped Bale early on due to his long lay off. Even a good pre-season is asking a lot for him to start. I think Giovani will be well up for starting. Gilberto is experienced enough to play in behind the new kid, and they can communicate early on. I've added Tainio as a holding player as we're away from home. His experience is crucial alongside the new boy Modric. I've put Malbranque on as we need his bite in midfield along with Tainio's aswell, alongside the new player Modric and Giovani, this will be important early on as they adapt to the physical side of the English game. I'd have put Jenas in for Tanio of it were at home. Thats the area i would change. A top class defensive midfielder, or maybe someone like Albelda for a couple of years, while Huddlestone develops and hopefully makes that position his own.​

as in 0-3 to us i hope...that would be such a fantastic start to the season, also having new players gel so fast..i would LOVE to see both modric AND dos santos start on opening day..also i think the hudd can only get better!

One or two transfer twists before the start of the season though. If we can keep the Berbs/Keano partnership and keep Ledley and Bale fit,then we have to be in with realistic shout at leap frogging the scum and/or Liverpool.
