A trophy is still a trophy though and is a fair barometer in how successful a side truly is.

Granted, it has been devalued through the rise of Champions League football and the financial implications that it brings but you can't replace the days out to Wembley watching your side lift the most famous domestic cup in world football.

That being said, when Crouch scored the winner at the Etihad it did feel very much like we won the cup final...

But Stemark, this thread isn't just about the FA cup is it, it's about CL places and the FA Cup. But on the subject of the FA Cup, are you not proud that we are 3rd in the all time winners list, do you not care about our history? Do you still go to games? and if so do you sing the song "...and if you know your History". If you do, but don't care about this "piece of tin with no real value now" why do you sing the song?

Has the FA cup really been that severly devalued? What a real shame that is :-(

Of course it's a shame, matty. And to be honest, I think the CL is a bit of a crock of shite. But we need the money and the exposure it offers.

The way the FA Cup has gone, even the shit PL teams don't always play a full strength side-not to mention the top PL sides. Who knows how many players the Chavs will rest at the weekend with the game against Barcelona to think about-it's going to be interesting.

It's a very odd situation. It would be our best season since God knows when, but I'd still have a slight feeling that we could/should have done better, and a feeling that it's because of Harry that we didn't.

Where previously I thought people who said he'd taken us as far as he can were crazy, I think that he really has now taken us as far as he can, and his issues with tactics will hold us back from properly challenging at the top.

Having said that, the only reason we're even looking at 'the top' as a possible place to be is because of Harry and we should never forget that. He took us from at best, mid-table also rans and at worst, relegation candidates, and has made us a team that expects to be in the Champions League. For that he deserves to be in the hall of fame and whichever way you spin it he's our most successful manager in the Premier League era by some distance.

So...I want to vote for both options...because I'm even more fickle than Matty considered possible in a Spurs fan (y)

The F.A Cup is about the only thing we could brag about to Arsenal fans, only if we got 4th with it as well. But this season still has a long way to go, why can't Arsenal lose 6 games in a row? *clutching at straws in the hope Wolves actually win tonight*

I agree TSH, but one thing I always struggle with is this Harry took us from the gutter thing. Yes we were in a bad place and he's done great but its over stating it for me. Not that we got Champions League football, he deserves great credit for that...but the description of it being from one extreme to the other as such, we were in a bad moment but lets not forget the foundations were already there, a good squad on the back of what Jol achieved. I know in essence this is exactly what he did do, but looking at it objectively and a bit deeper...he took a talented squad and turned it around, his methods do and have an instant impact.

The description for me is a bit warped, because its not like he took over Blackburn or similar and got them to the Champions League ie our position was a false one.

I can only agree with your post once, Pinky, but it deserves many more.

I am not joking when I say it but if Alex McLeish and Sam Allerdyce had been given the funds that Harry got, they too could have turned Spurs around after our players had lost all respect for Ramos.
I am not saying that they would have qualified for the Champions league the following season but we wouldn't have been relegated.

DiMatteo has turned Chelsea around after AVB,anyone fancy him as our next manager?

Whilst i share the general concern of our recent slump and do realise Harry has made errors , i can't understand this wave of hostilty to a man that has by hook or crook given us the best team in decades,he must be given a little credit for what he has done FFS. he hasn't spent fortunes like is being portrayed and i think deserves a little more respect for where we are today.

The only way Alex McLeish could turn us around would be if it was directing our attacking players back to our own area to crowd out our own penalty area in the hope of squeezing out a nil-nil - WHL or not!

DiMatteo has turned Chelsea around, and a Chelsea with some apparent flaws, but certainly not as many as we had when 'Arry took over, and certainly a better team than we had when 'Arry took over. And he hasn't turned them around by having them play like 'Arry had us playing - on the contrary they have hardly deserved the good results they have had, and most of them have only occurred after being out played and then sneaking a very fluky goal, or due to incredibly bad and dodgy reffing decisions.

I said in the Summer that I thought it was ludicrous Chelsea hiring AVB - but I think he will have benefitted from his year in England, and would consider it, so long as no-one was expecting an overnight miracle form him. Does he have a clause in his contract disqualifying him from signing for another English club for a year, like Mourinho and Ancelotti had?

I don't think anyone is being hostile to Harry,I was a big fan of his when he first arrived and I think he is a delightful human being.
However he just isn't a good enough manager and his decision making is awful.

Okay,on reflection McLeish was a bit OTT.:)

I personally think its the other way round, i don't really warm to him as a person but admire him as a manager, he is after all the man that took us from bottom to the quarter final of the CL, and the last time i looked we were 4th and off to wembley this week,
All football fans moan and groan when things go wrong, Wenger out was popular down the road recently, like i said Harry is not a great manager, but he has transformed us whether we like or not ,slump or no slump.

Dimatteo i find irratating, no thanks, and do you believe he is in charge?...i think there is alot of shit going on there.

Drop Ramos out of the equation, and he's took us from 5th to 4th ;)

Tongue and cheek, but there is an element of truth in it.

Nevertheless it was still a fantastic achievement, and we did very well in our debut season in the CL - class actually.

ELY is right. Harry has topped out, but his topping level is higher than any other Prem manager we've had. Allardyce has by far the most expensive squad in the Championship and still plays dire football that isn't actually putting them where their budget would suggest they should be, and the fans hate him. Even referencing McLeish reflects rather badly on your mentality as a fan, to compare how he operates to what Harry has done at our club, the mind boggles.

The end of the season is the ideal time to say goodbye, hopefully he can raise the players and subvert his tactical tourettes for long enough to see us to 4th.. which would be a good end to a great tenure. Sacking him is pure Abramovichian madness of course.. there's a max of 7 games left..

This, the only thing setting Harry apart from previous managers is scraping past Man City to qualify for the Champions League 2 years ago.

Who was in charge of them?

Mark Hughes.................enough said.

Allardyce currently has a massive financial/competitive advantage in the Championship and is doing his best to illustrate that your assertion is false.
