We've easily got at least the 5th best squad in the Premiership. Loads of teams play with just 1 striker, but very few in the whole of Europe can do so with a team as talented as ours. There is no way a squad with the likes of Bentley, Lennon, Dos Santos, Bale, Hutton, Woodgate, King, Modric, Gomes and JJ should be any lower than 5th and should be close to the top 4. It's easy to point out our weak areas and be all doom and gloom, but we need to try and be comparitive, which means looking at the weak areas of our rivals. For every problem we have in our squd, there are as many and more in the Everton, Villa and Pompey squads. Pompey had the likes of Hereideson, Diop and Kaboul (at RB and AM) in their starting line up. Their subs were Mvuemba and Jerome Thomas! Evrotn started with Baines at LM, and CM paring of Jagielka and Rodwell and where we had Gio, they had Osman! I'm not saying our squad doesn't have weak areas, that need reinforcing, as it clearly does, but nothing like last year. Compared to our rivals, we are sitting pretty. FFS check out Arseanl's starting line up against WBA.

I have to say I agree that we have a good squad of players and a good manager but what we really need is for it all to come together, I watched the Villa game and have to say was very impressed and compared to the way we played they were two or three notches above us.

O'Neill has bought wisely, the players he has bought have all Premier experience and IMO that counts for so much. How many times do we here players talking about the difference there is over here.

Mr pointy nose could field a team of half wits and he would still have them playing good football, how he does it is anyones guess!

It's quite funny to read you guys pessimism. After we beat Sunderland on Sat, I can see those who pointed us to finish mid table after christmas say we'll be pushing for 4th again.

With just Bent up front, I would say out of the League Cup and possibly out of the UEFA Cup and perhaps 8th place, which would be a complete disaster after all the changes.

I still believe Ramos must have something up his sleeve and a big player like Villa will be signed. In which case still in the cups and 5th in the league.

We desperately need to sort out our central midfield and for me none of the current combinations that we can put out are capable of controlling a game.

In defence we're relying on Ledley being fit and despite the club and Ledley saying he's fit he obviously isn't yet which is worrying.

And upfront even if Berba does stay we're still only one injury away from having a striker crisis.

So if we don't sign anyone I think we'll be doing well to be in the top 8.

I can only agree with this. Thank goodness the transfer window has been extended a whole 24 hours, that should make all the difference, seeing how we are so speedy in our transfer dealings.
