Maybe my nature is to be more cautious and realistic about things.

The start has been amazing, and set our season up great. It's just that to me notions of winning or challanging for the league this season never even occured to me.

This thread is probably the first I have heard of the prospect.

I am carried away with the start we have had, but I guess in a more realistic way... I see it as a way to set ourselves up to really challange the other pretenders to the four place 'crown' Many City/Villa/Everton and place ourselves ready to pounce on any of the established top four who drop out.

My mood has switched from thinking top six is probably the most realistic target to think 5-6 will be par and the real challange is back to trying to get in that top four. That for me, in terms of supporting Spurs, is getting very carried away ;)

If we get 6 points from the next 2 games then Top Four should be a realistic goal for the season

Thinking of becoming league champions this season is madness unless your 20 or younger so you dont know any better or your on prescription medicine!

We will win today against red nose's mercenaries because it's now our time. We have at long last a team that's well balanced, that can adapt to different styles of play according to how the opposition's lined up or the way their subs are being used. 'Arry's installed a mental toughness we did not have before, along with a desire to win bred by the confidence of coming back from being the odd goal down.
For all the hype Man Ure are just not the same team without Ronaldo and although fear factor played a big part in the past, at this moment Spurs fear NO ONE.
We'll win today, mark my words, and we'll do it in style, the Spurs way
5-1 to Spurs

so your saying that if we get 6 points from the next 2 games, laeving us with 18 points from a possible 18 with half of those games against last seasons top 3, then its madness to dream of topping the league?

atleast if we set ourselves the target of winning the premiership.. our consollation would be a champions league place ;) and at the very least, if it all goes balls up in the end á la villa, a UEFA spot.

"It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we of Spurs have set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory."

Some guy once said that...

Correctermundo

Much easier to win your first 6 than your last 6 and your going for the title. The pressure is massive

You need to have been there or there abouts before when your up against clubs that has seen it, been there, done it, worn the t shirt

That's my problem with it actually, the perception shifts. You set a 'target' of winning the league and you then see Champions league place as a consollation, when in actual fact it would be like winning the league in terms of achievement for a club in our current postion.

Setting targets for winning the league as fans will not make the team any more likely to win the league or even get 4th, yet the expectations will have been elevated to the extent where people no longer see fourth as the amazing achievement it would be but rather a consollation (something that comforts you in defeat) I dread to think what those who would see 4th place as a loss would make of falling into 5-6th for example.

My concerns for this are largely based from what I saw and heard from MANY of my fellow Spurs fans at our last home game. The bottom line is we won a tough game against a team who came to defeat and play hard, yet so many of our fans were bad mouthing our team and players when things were no longer living up to their raised expectations.

I don't want the fans booing and being discontent again if we have a blip, I am disgusted by the way many of our fans have been turning on the club in recent times.

There are already many people looking for any excuse to call for Redknapp's head I think because they had their mind made up he was not good enough when he arrived. Hopefully what he has done has convinced them otherwise, but I am sure 2 defeats on a spin (with bad performances) ,although natural for anytime over the course of a season, would see the knives come out again.

Get carried away and dream of the title by all means, football supporting is all about hope and magic. Just remember reality as and when we fall off the pace and keep your support focused on the team instead of displaying abuse to our players

*I am not speaking to anyone personally here, just any fan with a nature to turn on the club/players like those sitting all around me at the Brum gaime.

I don't expect to win the league, I don't even see it as a target, I merely see it as a dream in which I'm happy to indulge.

had been coming.

game over.

This was posted seconds after Man Utd scored their second, so putting us one goal down at home before half time.

I suggest if we lost 3 games on the bounce such supporters would be calling for Harry's head, yet they probably were talking about Champions League victory next season when Defoe put us one nil up.

It's not even half as bad as the things I heard people saying when we were 1-1 with Brum, it was clearly all to play for still (we won after all) yet people were leaving with 15 mins to go and bad mouthing half of our set up.

Fair enough, odds are we will go on to lose this game now... but it is only half time and we are at home (and joint top of the league this morning)

The drastic mood swings of Spurs fans is what bothers me, I have nothing against people dreaming and being optimistic as long as they do counter it with doom and gloom the second things are quite so rosey.

(for the record, I know this does not apply to every fan who gets carried away, but it is certainly evident in many both at the ground and on this community)

Well my logic is out of the window lol.

10 men and we concede. Lets hope we can show some more fight against the chav bastard. Unless they get 8 mins of extra time that is.

Ok that's fine, in the same way people dream about all the things they would buy if they won the big jackpot on the Euro millions lotto everytime one roles around.

But it isn't realistic and I guess as I am not a dreamer by nature such notions do little for me personally.

'It is better to aim for the moon and hit an eagle...than to aim for an eagle and hit nothing at all'

quote from Kung Fu tv programme circa 1978
What about if you aim for the moon and hit nothing - is that better than aiming for the eagle and hitting nothing or is it kind of the same?

For the record, I aimed for the corner of a goal (marked out by a slide and a jumper) and hit a greenhouse. That is worse than hitting an eagle. Unless the eagle gets mad and pecks at your face and groin. My granddad just yelled at me so that some saliva went on my lip.

So, all things considered, a better quote might be:
"If you hit an eagle, make sure you kill it."
or
"When granddad gets mad, close your mouth."
Or mix and match clauses to match the situation.

Might we just, for the first time in 20 years be considered very outsiders for the title?

Outsiders yes, but genuine outsiders. Dark horses if you will, but without the scoffing and snide remarks. Actually a team to command genuine respect, not just good on our day.

Thanks for the jinx man. Appreciate it. :shake::evil:

Its nice to dream but its better for the heart if we are a bit more realistic. Villa were flying last season about 20 games into the season? Had won about 9 away games in a row, were playing exciting counter attacking football and still by the end, hadn't even finished in the top 5.
