There is also 19-year-old Ukraine international centre-back Ilya Zabarnyi. football.london understands that Spurs have been closely watching the highly-rated Dynamo Kyiv teenager and are weighing up a summer move for him. The right-footer can play on either side of the defence but does have a long-term deal with his side after signing a five-year deal last October.

That came of course before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which, in a football sense, resulted in the termination of the Ukrainian Premier League following its suspension in February as the sport understandably took a back seat to what was going on. What will happen next season for Ukrainian clubs remains unclear.

I would be absolutely delighted if we land Zabarnyi - he has been tracked by most of the major clubs in world - he will have lot of suitors though. Chelsea specifically were linked to him through whole of last season.
Am sure he has 15+ national caps for his age...
Good positional defender, good reader of game, can pass & play with ball well. Usually plays right side.

I will definitely take Zabarnyi for Rodon.

Wonder if this was one of the 'underwhelming' alternatives on Herc's list.

Again, I write from no prior knowledge so happy to be educated by you lot.

I think if signed he’d be rodon replacement , he’d be underwhelming in the sense of if he was bought as our major signing LCB but as a backup CB it could be a very good deal, only 19 and has multiple caps for Ukraine and is very highly rated

This could potentially be an excellent signing providing we also get an established LCB.

He could cover Dier and Romero without demanding to start every match.

Can he even sign for clubs? Wouldn’t someone his age have been called up to the military? Or do sports players have some sort of exemption?

Zarbanyi, Udogie, etc. are the kind of cheapish punts we should continuously make. We are always jealous at the awesome talent that teams like Monaco, Dortmund, Leverkusen, Lyon have we should be doing the same.

I obviously am not a keen observer of the Ukranian League, but I saw him vs. Scotland and Wales for Ukraine and he looked very assured. He's got the aggressiveness quotient I like and he has the opposite of 'lazy feet' - i.e. he goes for everything, doesn't just hoof it forward and pretty much always takes the extra steps. I like to see that in a player, it shows discipline and perfectionism.

I admittedly am uncomfortable with us a) signing a Ukranian player for cut price deals due to the situation and b) signing a Ukranian in general as there is always the threat of war deployment or general tragedy striking in his family. It would seem that this is probably the worst possible time for a 19 year old Ukranian to move to London and play for Spurs, but who knows.

....or he might well be keen to come, and bring some relatives!

But I totally take your point, and we need to make sure we don't come across as tone deaf

Never heard of him and know nothing about him, but if we don't sign him then I'll kick a cat.
