football.london understands that Spurs have been tracking Lyon's Brazil international Lucas Paqueta, a player Newcastle tried to sign earlier this year. The versatile 24-year-old can play in an attacking midfield role, centrally or on the right and can also play up front when required. He netted 11 goals and laid on seven assists in a Lyon side that struggled at times last season.

This is probably the most exciting midfielder we have been reliably linked with so far this summer. He has all the tools to succeed in the PL imho.

Feels like there's a deal to be done here with Tanguy on loan, similar to the Pau Torres/Lo Celso one.

I don't necessarily think he's a perfect fit (I'd prefer Eriksen if we are buying an AM) but he is a real talent.

Has the Brazilian Samba flair, lots of nutmegs and flashy dribbles, but has substance to back it up. He is physically advanced, competes well, and has a wand of a left foot. Great attacking instincts and real playmaking ability.

We should look at Lyons scouting team too! They find some real gems. Very impressive. Don’t know much about this fella, but his YouTube clip looks exciting.

i just don't see it happening as much as I'd want it 2. This very feels like a guy that would end up at PSG or Newcastle on insane wages

Newcastle have been heavily linked the past few months. Makes sense given that they've just bought his buddy Bruno Guimares and seem to have a taste for Brazilians. Joelinton-Bruno G-Paqueta would be a very intriguing midifeld. Not sure how you'd get the ball off that lot. Paqueta especially has that second-nature ghost by player trait that you only see in naturally talented dribblers. The way he goes by players is the way he's been going by people since he was 4 years old, it's very instinctive.

I feel he eventually ends up there, a player with his talent and confidence will want to start.

It was Milan who originally signed him, Lyon then signed him from Milan for less than what Milan paid.

On the limited occasions I’ve seen him I’ve actually been disappointed and thought he was a bit overhyped.

Also he doesn’t really fit us at all.

Has to play CAM to be most effective, can’t really cover the WF positions and I’m not sure how effective he’d be up top covering Kane.

If we get him, he still may yet stay at Brentford. There’s also talk of Lucas going on loan back to São Paulo so this could be his replacement also.
Where have you seen Lucas to São Paulo? it would make absolutely no sense from our point of view

I'm wondering if he has play across the front 3 ability and therefore Eriksen might still be viable right?
Yes he does play across the front three although I wouldn’t really put him in the CF role. You could bring him and Eriksen in as you wouldn’t be playing Eriksen out wide.

My thought has always been that we either bring in someone that can play ST and WF (Nunez as an example) or someone that can cover both wide positions and a big target man that doesn't mind sitting out some weeks.

This guy look like the second type, equally comfortable playing instead of Son or Deki. I definitely think that he could play in a two alongside Kane as well. I do see why some might say Eriksen isn't required if we move for this guy, but I reckon the two could be fairly complimentary to eachothers game in a 352. I mean we could go completely bat shit crazy and play a midfield of Eriksen, Paqueta and Bentancur behind a front two if we really wanted.
