I just wondered how you lot thought the strength of our 1st 11 and squad overall will match up next season after the signings we have now made.

If the Gomes Transfer goes through, then we will have a top class goalkeeper.
Modric and Dos Santos will provide our midfield with newly found creativity which it has been lacking for the past few seasons, even though we've still managed to score a good number of goals.

So on one hand i'm very impressed with the top quality signings we have made so far, however, I am a bit concerned that we are still lacking in certain areas.

I feel these are:
CB-If King isn't fully fit Woodgate won't have a good enough partner to help us to get where we want to be.

DM-Is Zokora good enough? I'm still not convinced he is.

WINGER?-Modric is a CAM and Dos Santos isn't really an out and out winger so still feel we could do with a winger Bentley would be perfect but if we signed him as well it would start to get ridiclous how good a team we are building and i'd question where the funds are coming from.

ST x2!!!-If Berby goes we need a replacement and if he stays we still need a 4th striker as we currently only have 3.

It's such a shame that we still have these worries as we have made 3 fantastic signings this summer, very impressive but i'm still concerned we need a CB to make our defence stronger, Zokora isn't quite good enough and I feel with Modric etc our new-look midfield still is a little weak in terms of strength not ability and may struggle to boss some matches and also we still have a dilema up top.

Currently we'd look like this going into next season:

--------------------------GOMES-------------------------

---Hutton--------Woodgate-------King???------Bale-------

---Lennon-------MODRIC---------Zokora---DOS SANTOS---

-----------------Berbatov??----Keane---------------------

Subs:
Alnwick
Gilberto
Dawson
Jenas
Malbranque
Bent
???????

I think that is a very very good side i'm delighted with how good a standard 1st 11 and squad we have now along with a top class coaching team and many promising youngesters, things are looking very promising, however I still just feel it's not quite yet enough for top4.

Am I being negative??? OR..... Do we still need to improve the areas i've suggested and sign the following for example to have a squad of top4 capeabilities:
NEW CB-i.e Jarque
NEW DM-i.e Tiago
NEW RM-i.e Bentley
NEW ST x2-i.e Milito and Nugnet?(Back-up)

views? Is that team/squad above pretty much good enough to give the top4 a run for their money and win honours or would it need to be the following:

-------------------------GOMES--------------------------

-----Hutton--------Woodgate------JARQUE-------Bale-----

-----BENTLEY-------Modric--------TIAGO----DOS SANTOS-

-------------------MILITO--------Keane------------------

SUBS:
Alnwick
Gilberto
Dawson
Zokora
Jenas
Bent
NUGENT?

views?

agreed in the most part. if we're sticking to 4-4-2, either Zokora needs to step up his game again, or we need a top drawer defensive midfielder. the flanks should be grand provided hutton, bale, lennon and dos santos stay fairly fit. plenty of back up too.

I think we need to get this elusive defensive midfield lynchpin in place. paying over the odds if we have to - this guy could literally be difference between top 4 and top 10 for us. if we can get someone like an albelda we can use him to bleed some experience for kaboul to mature into that role. seems to me he's got the right attributes to play there, bar some experience (e.g. keeping his discipline).

alternatively Ramos turns us into one of these 3/5 man midfields and Zokora will then be very useful indeed as the water carrier?

all will become clearer very soon

You do realize it's only June 27th? The season starts in August and the transfer window closes at midnight on 31st August. That's more than two months we have. These positions will be filled, maybe one or two positions you mentioned won't be, like a striker, as we already have three and Gio is the fourth. I'm pretty sure Ramos will buy a DM, a back-up CB, 2nd keeper and probably a winger or a midfielder.

No reason at all to be concerned now. In fact, I'm everything but concerned. We've already signed 3 players and that's more then most, if not all the other premiership clubs.

And Dave Nugent? Absolutely not, never. Other players in red, yes please.

Have to wait untill the season starts to be sure, but in my eyes we have our fourth choice striker (or Robbie Keane backup if you'd like) already ... in Dos Santos.
I'm not that convinced that he will (or if he even can) play on the left of the midfield - certainly not convinced if we're sticking to 442 formation.

King backup/replacement and holding midfielder are the MUST positions to fill in my opinion.

You do realize it's only June 27th?

Exactly.

We've now filled one of the crucial positions with Gomes.

We've added two creative players to a midfield that lacked creativity.

And we've signed one of the most promising youngsters in the country....all this before players can even officially register so I don't think we're doing too badly.

I think there's alot of money to spend as well so I think we're far from done. There's alot of dead wood to get rid of and that will bring in some loose change and I think there's money left on top of that.

They are slowly putting the pieces together and I'm sure we'll see a new DM and possibly a new CB come in within the next month or so. Once we've done that then we'll have a pretty strong spine and that is crucial.

Bentley may be added...if not we've got Lennon anyway.

And as for Berbs well we've set a price and if people pay it we'll have 30m to get a new striker and if they don't we'll still have Berbs.

It's all going to plan my friends.

I really hope Berba reflects on our latest signings, they are a statement of intent. Last summer was a smoke and mirrors trick by comparison.

Keeping Berba will be the equivelent of two signings, as we would probably hang onto Bent as well then. If Berba goes, our forward line will need to be re-born, with Bent acting as a make weight.

Am really impressed with what we've signed, especially as Euro 2008 hasn't quite finished yet. Expect the rumour mill to go into overdrive after the final!

As the people are saying - it's way too early to worry, but there is a lot of consensus as to where we need strengthening. It looks like the a Club really are going to focus on improving our weak points - something they've all to often failed to do!

Jesus creepers. Hardly anyone else has done any business at all. We're so far ahead of the game it isn't true. Get a grip.

You do realise we had no contact with Jarque at all? And Nugent? Are you serious? There's a reason he's hardly played for Pompey.

To say the team 'lacked creativity' is quite simply a daft statement. Creativity was not the problem with Spurs last season, a Midfield that would allow itself to be overun by mid/lower league teams that outfought our Dandy dans was our main issue.

Hopefully, the players now in will make our current crop of talented midfielders realise they have to fight to be on the pitch, not automatically selected as they generally were last season. I imagine Jenas/The Thudd and co (not O'Hara - he battled for fun) will be somewhat more determined this season... in my opinion anyway.

We definitely did lack creativity from the midfield, how you can say we didn't is beyond me.

chillax lukey boy!!!
Ramos knows how to build a squad, and then shape it into a winning team.
you can be sure that he has the full and undivided attention of the board and any players he has on his wishlist will be worth the wait.

if you are still in doubt, read 'Good Omens' in the spurs chat thread and all your fears and worries will be laid to rest!!!

this is gonna be a great season, can feel it in my bones!

It's not a daft statement at all. JJ and Zokora created very little between them throughout the season, Lennon's delivery is very suspect and Steed always had to cut inside before making his passes.

Yes we scored plenty of goals last season but I'd say the majority were Berbs and Keane creating things themselves. Adding Modric will help take the pressure off them and also will help the more one dimensional Bent.

Yes it is the defensive side of the midfield that needs working on more but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be working on the creativity.

we'll just have to wait. firstly modric wont reach his best potential in the centre IMO. Ive watched every game at Euro2008 and he has played superbly out on the right/sometimes left. He played CM a couple of times and still looked good but he'd be better off on the right.

secondly bentley is a good mate of mine (Same school, same year etc) and we still talk a couple of times a month when he plays snooker or golf with me. he wants to come to spurs and doesnt rate ince as a PL boss. i probably shouldnt have told u all that but hey what the hell were all yiddos. He wants CL footie but is prepared to play UEFA and rates dos santos and modric as players that can get us into the CL.

-----------------------------------------Gomes---------------------------

---Hutton---------------Woodgate----------------King----------------Bale

---Bentley----------------------------Jenas---------------------------Modric

-----------------------------------Dos Santos---------------------------

------------------------Berbatov-------------------Keane

That would be mine although I can see the problems with JJ in the centre what with him a more attacking player we could be exposed but thats why im not the gaffer! I think youll all agree that that attacking 5 looks VERY handsome though. Just the usual problems of our back four eh lads??

This man speaks the truth. Hopefully that guy really does know his stuff.

We did indeed. Much of the attacking we did was from Berbatov and Keane. Hopefully Lennon will be relied on a bit less now, and can gain a bit of consistency, and the arrival of Modric and Dos Santos will be just what we need.
