This quote from Poch slipped under the radar

Not good news...

"In the case of Kieran being weeks away from the team, we cannot think that only Kyle can replace him.

“We are working (towards signing players), and we were working before, to try and find a solution.”
Jesus we are unlucky with injuries. Was stupid not to have got a RB in before something like this happened.

This was immediately after the game when no one would have an idea as to the extent of the injury, i think it was a more general statement saying that KWP can't be our only backup if Trippier is out for an extended period of time and a confirmation that we will sign a RB.

Any thoughts on Lamela? What kind of hip injury may have been? And likelyhood he will fully recover?

Is difficult to say, but to perform what sounds like an arthroscopic repair (key hole surgery) in his hip it must've been something quite serious & I imagine the prolonged lay off would point towards a 'soft tissue' issue rather than a fracture. So this is purely guess work...

- Labral tears: bit like a meniscal injury of the knee I suppose. It's a tear of labrum/cartilage which covers the surface of the acetabulum (the 'socket' on the pelvic bone that the head of the femur ('ball') inserts into to form your hip joint)
Normal cartilage allows the bones to glide over one another painlessly & freely, however if there is a tear on the surface, the range of motion is reduced/may catch & there can be wear & tear of the bones causing inflammation & pain.

- Chondral injuries, are similar to the above, but there's damage to the cartilage that covers the head of the femur

(I have a feeling Lamela maybe suffering from something like one of those...)

- Snapping Hip Syndrome: sounds painful (sometimes is) is when tendons move over the bones in the pelvis & create a 'snap' noise when they do

(Could account for why nobody knew what was wrong with him!)

As I say these are all hypothetical so in summary I have no idea! It's a complex joint so lots can go wrong with it & I could spend hours talking about all the indications for hip arthroscopy. However the prolonged time spent recovering is quite concerning...

So we are assuming Trips is likely to miss the Newcastle game? Gonna have to change the Fantasy Football team already...

Hip injury sounds very complex almost like back, where it's very hard to be sure exactly what's going on.As I said I'd be very surprised if he makes a complete recovery from this.Shame as we were just starting to see best of him.

Tottenham full-back Kieran Trippier set to miss start of the Premier League season after picking up ankle injury against Juventus

Initial tests were inconclusive and he will undergo further examination as soon as the swelling goes down but Spurs fear the damage may be more serious than they thought on Saturday after the match.

It's incredible how it's gone from one of our best covered positions to no cover in a single transfer window. Frankly, its bad management. We gambled on him being fit for the start of the season and we've lost the bet. I don't normally get annoyed but what shit management to have allowed this to happen. Full-back is so important for the way we play; it's vital we are strong in that department. There is no one else in the squad who play right wing-back to the level we need, so we have to change formation. And on top of that any club chairman with any intelligence will now increase the asking price for any full-back we want. Utter stupidity all round.

It's just classic spurs. Weaken ourselves and gamble on things being OK, and as usual, the football gods kick us right in the plums.

It's ok though, even though poch says himself that KWP isn't ready, there's a whole group of people who believe he's the answer

So, what's the percentage extra we'll be charged for a right-back now everyone knows we're desperate? We're either gonna end up with no right-backs available, or spending all the Walker money on an inferior player. Absolute joke.

The Daily Fail tell us nothing that we don't already know and add their usual negative spin.
The "further examinations" that he'll have to undergo "when the swelling goes down" are most likely the ones we know he was due to have today.
The Fail knows this, and that if they add their article (based on Poch's post match comments) when people are looking for an update, then we'll all assume this is the result of those "further examinations".

Buying Chimbonda again, again, won't cost that much ;)

We really are embarrassing amateurs when it comes to getting our squad ready. First game of the season 6 days away and our squad looks painfully thin on numbers and back-up quality. We knew we already had a few injuries and with Trippier now injured we've got exactly what we deserve. Looking forward to scrambling around at the end of the window like novices. Will we ever learn.

Luckily we prepared for a scenario like this since no team with real aspirations leave themself with 1 capable player in a key position days before the season start...

I think people are just annoyed that this is a problem of our making. It's not bad luck, just bad management. We have to go away to Newcastle and take on Chelsea without a right wing-back if reports are to be believed. And even if Trippier is fit in time, we were lucky. This sort of situation shouldn't happen; not when you get a record fee for a right-back. Every season we always look at the start of the season and wonder if we'd started better, maybe we'd have finished higher in the league. And normally it's because our team isn't properly in place in August. We're risking the same again.

I want to add that overall I'm very happy with the management of the club (we're punching under Levy) but this is a repeat issue that doesn't get corrected, and I feel it costs us at the end of every season. How much money do we save from holding off on transfers? Are we net ahead even with the dodgy August results? I don't know but it's infuriating anyway.
