And the evidence so far points to KWP at least getting a chance to stake a claim to be one of those four full backs - both that he is involved in pre-season, and we haven't signed anyone (especially now with Trippier's unfortunate injury).

If KWP is deemed good enough, and we have to go a few weeks now playing a Dier (or someone else) there rotating with KWP as Trippier recovers then big deal. Injuries are part and parcel of football and we've had a couple of unfortunate ones recently, suck it up and move on. Next you'll be telling me we need to sign another LB to cover for Rose's absence over the next few weeks...

I would prefer we played 343 always, but as Victor is out, I would guess we'll go 4231 and play Dier in the middle:

Yes, they'll probably attack our right side, but Dier will have to play with that in mind, covering KWP to some extent.
This is still a very good team and should be enough to beat Newcastle imo.
The issue injuries raise for me is this: is it better to change formation to accommodate temporary losses, or do we buy to maintain the 343 at all times?

They've just said Trippier, GKN, Lamela and Rose are out and everyone else is available for selection. So I'd assume Wanyama is available to.
